Headlight dilemma 2004 SVT

So I have a 2004 4-door SVT, and I recently hit a deer Headlight dilemma 2004 SVT-img_20130917_235354_727.jpg

Headlight dilemma 2004 SVT-img_20130917_235414_068.jpg

It was a pretty sad day, but it wasn't as bad as it could have been.
Anyway, I broke the grill and the headlight mount on the passenger side so I thought it was the perfect excuse to put new headlights in and finally get rid of the grill with the blinkers in it.

I've been looking around and Hella makes a set of headlights called Hella Euro Dynabeam with the blinkers in themHeadlight dilemma 2004 SVT-44b9c9ed.jpg and am autoparts makes another set comparable to the mach HID headlights Name: main.JPG
Views: 67
Size: 10.9 KB.

Does anyone have experience with either of these headlights? Pros or cons of either? And recommendations for grills with out blinkers, preferably badge less.

Thanks in advance!!!!!

Yes get the machs they are good. OEM if possible though I've seen both insides and OEM is better constructed. Hella dynabeams are a excellent choice as well!

Any idea where I would be able to find the oem machs? I checked ebay, couldnt find any, and the local dealer said it was $900 per light.

There are 2 or 3 for sale on the forum here in the BST section. Range between 250 shipped to 350 or so + shipping.

As for grills, your best options would be Euro market Focus grills. The one pictured is a "facelift" grill but almost any Euro OEM grills look good. However, they are somewhat rare because they all have to be imported. Keep an eye out in the BST section or ship one over yourself from eBay.uk.

Badgeless options are hard to get. A while back, a grill was sold on eBay that looked like the facelift grill without the badge but I haven't seen it for a couple years. Another option is the hofele grills which look really good and are made for metal; however, they are very rare and tend to go for $400 to $600 apiece used.

Search "Dynabeams" here and on FJ, and you will find lots of good information such as this: Hella Dynabeam Headlight Buy!!!!!!
I have had the Xenon HIDs for three years, and like them a lot. They lack the ultimate brightness of the so called "Machs" with their bi-xenon high beams, but otherwise work superbly. I like their less busy look vs. the "Machs". I believe both types can still be bought through an importer in Oregon, whose name currently escapes me.
You will need to do the so called VW wiring hack to adapt your non HID headlight wiring, but you will find threads for that too.
Which ever you get, I highly recommend applying a Laminex type of protector as soon as you finish installing the headlight units.
Good luck.

Here is the thread on the harness should you go either route.
