Thoughts on RMM

Hey,

I've had my Focus ST for about a month now.

The one thing that really pisses me off is the ridiculous wheel hop that I get and I'm thinking about a RMM. The stock one is probably already blown out.

In my old ZX3 I put in a CFM race RMM which increased vibrations considerably at idle. If the AC was on, it was much worse.

I understand there are plenty of options from COBB, e-focus and many more.

What is your experience with your RMMs?

Which one did you put in and how is the livability with what you have?

If I remember the 2013 ST had a TSB on the original RMM.

You have a 2013.. So maybe the original owner never got the better RMM

I have a carfax for the car, there are no outstanding TSBs for an RMM.

Anyone else want to weigh in with remarks on their aftermarket RMM?

Here's a useful thread:

Loud bang sound when hard shifting from first to second

It includes a link to the original thread on the TSB near the start, they did a thorough fix for any that complained but it was a by request repair. Any done would have the E-RMM style rear restrictor (Electric Focus) as they ended up using that style with full solid rubber for all the ST's.

Still kinda soft afterwards if driven hard, just not to the point of causing damage as the originals could let happen.

TSB wasn't for RMM even though that was the fix.

TSB was for "Hard bang upon shifting from 1st to 2nd gear under heavy acceleration."

I have the TSB RMM (the same part# as the Focus Electric) and I no longer have the issue.

Fair points - I should say that the wheel hop really comes in during hard stabs of the loud pedal, not always during a 1-2 shift. Still likely to be RMM related?

I had the OEM Mazdaspeed 3 mount on the sedan with my original engine, our hatch has the OEM E-RMM, and I now have the COBB RMM with my swap.

The E-RMM seemed to be stiffer than the MS3 and the COBB is definitely much firmer than either of them. MS3 or E-RMM will be undetectable from an NVH point of view but their better holding capabilities will definitely be felt when driving and shifting.

The COBB RMM brings in a bit of NVH but it's super easy to live with. I love mine.
