May not hurt either, but def. won't improve. Gotta look close at each for benefits vs. potential issues.
A Mountune fmic will add reliability vs the oem fmic....as well as the cai.

How?

Seriously....

Performance - yes, don't see a reliability improvement.

Off topic....but that is crazy how much the Focus depreciates. 43K and sub 10K, granted 5 years old but that is nothing. Still new.

Cars depreciate based on the "base MSRP" which sorta is annoying. That's by trim BTW. Buy any "packages" in the trim usually are lost within the first year.

Take and ST for example, there are ST1, ST2, and ST3 trims. Used the baseline is the ST1 trim and the rest get modifiers. The same is true of all other levels (S, SE, Titanium), but even each of those are somewhat tied together (as they usually are 2.0L Automatics).

If the "base MSRP" car takes a beating in value, then everyone else takes that beating to as the math is all "multiplier" based. So the Focus which has a flood of low trim units (because it's an economy car) has excessive devaluing of higher trim units because they only get a multiplier of that base and are not independently assessed.

This is why private values of non-base cars (for example an ST3) can be MUCH higher than the trade-in value. Because the market controls that. Trade-in is not controlled by market. Dealers pretty much exclusively use the NADA Black Book Used Car Values, even if they are ridiculously low.

Reliability at the track where you see sustained high temps, maybe. Anywhere else that statement is false.

OEM parts typically (I'd say 99% of the time) are going to be more reliable than aftermarket. For general use, the aftermarket may do better in an abuse case because the part is designed to be abused, where the OEM part is not.

In my understanding of the ST system operation it's not even that good for an aftermarket intercooler.

The electronics of the engine controls reduce output when the limits of the stock intercooler are reached and intake air temps get too high. "Overboost" in particular is limited in time to avoid too much stress on the engine.

Installing an aftermarket intercooler extends the time period for higher output operation, a performance advantage but hardly one that increases long term reliability.

It's pretty simple, operating at higher output levels for a longer time may not do damage that's obvious, but it's sure not a boost to longevity.
