DIY TSBs?

Hey,

I recently bought my Focus ST with 10k on the odo. The previous owner did not take the car into the dealership for any of the TSBs including the wire harness thing & the rear hatch fix.

Since the car is now out of warranty, I want to know if you guys are privvy to what the exact changes are in the TSBs as I'd rather not deal with the excessive out of pocket costs that will come with them...

Thoughts?

Engine wiring harness is a soldering issue. Basically you have to remove the air box, unwrap a bunch of the harness, cut out two solder joints and re-solder in some new stuff. There was an official Ford video out there for a while (for dealers but somehow got posted online) as to how to do it exactly.

I don't even know what the rear hatch one is? TSB #?

My car has the engine one done, and I had to re-tape the wiring harness as my dealer did a shit job on it. I've since switched dealers.

Apparently there's a problem where if you're going to hit your fog light and hit the rear hatch release, it opens...yes while you're moving. Poor ergonomic design by Ford in putting that hatch release button on the light bezel.

Not really a concern unless you hit it while moving at 0-4 mph. If you're moving faster than 4 mph or so it will not open no matter what, unless the latch itself becomes faulty, then it can open randomly whenever it feels like it, even at 70 mph without any input to the button.

Deliberate attempts to open the hatch at 70 mph however resulted in no response from the car about releasing the hatch.

It was TSB 16C13, BCM reprogramming.

Oh. That one isn't a TSB any longer. It's a recall. I got notified of it. I'm sure of it.

Yeah, but it's only a compliance recall, and is the least concerning of the open recalls or tsbs on the car, well behind the door latch recall.

Though as it's a recall and not a TSB as the OP thought, that one would be covered regardless of warranty status though.

Good to know - I'll definitely check it out.
