I live in AZ, so rain is not an issue. That being said I wouldn't worry about it. Driving it would be hard for rain to get in I think.

Yeah, living in AZ I would think they are a good idea.
Here, in Wisconsin not too good.
Between rain, snow and Winter with cold in the 20F and 10F... I want my motor to stay warm between driving stints around town.
Let alone the snow issues.. LOL

But for a hot climate... Yeah great.

I ended up installing a fine mesh over the scoop on the STI since I was getting leaves,tiny pebbles and small animals stuck on my intercooler.
