There's one good reason to skip gears in a car.

When you take off with hard acceleration in the first two or three then drop it into high to cruise.

I wasn't going to mention that...

High gear in reverse is usually a bit much for me. Engage for a sec then let it roll on occasion when normal is too slow for a bobtail.

Wasn't going to mention it, but pasta brought up ''one gear one speed'' grin.

I have all my petals for 'eco' whatever.. EXCEPT gear shifting...
And I an certain the lack of petals is due to skipping gears when it makes sense.. Go figure.

I don't use the engine to brake, I use the brakes, pop it over a slot (4th), brake, pop it over a slot to 2nd...as I come to a stop at the light I can hear the engine and trans are lined up and I pop it into neutral without the clutch.
This is how I drive to and from work in contained stop and go traffic.

If I'm running around up north where there some nice corners, I'll pop the revs up to transition from 5th to 4th (etc.) to avoid the engine trans strain and I'll drop down through the gear box, not 2, 4, 6 or 6, 4, 2.
I never get that damn upshift arrow which I think is ridiculous anyway...
