anyone buy their ST out of state?

I am looking at 2015 Ford Focus ST1 or ST 2 for the wife (I am seriously on the fence with leather seats, because yes we are having ourbest friend(dog) ride with us a lot and she will ruin that leather within the first few years.

I am expecting to pay about ~19K with ~10k miles. Does this sound right? I saw a '15 ST2 for 18K flat in Sacramento, about a 10 hour drive for me.. I know for a fact I will have to pay 6% sales tax when i register in my home state, but what about Cali? will they want a cut? Will they take 1.5% since they are 7.5% sales tax? I'm so confused.

I was considering making a purchase out of my state (one in Minnesota and one in Missouri) so I called the dealers there and asked. That would be my advise. They would be the ones to know.

$19k for a 2015 with 10k on the clock sounds like a good deal as long as the body is dent/ding free.

Much will depend on how the transaction is handled, and the rules of both states.

Here's some CA info. to add to the confusion:http://r.search.yahoo.com/_ylt=A0LEV...WNvDLieRVSccA-

Didn't try to look up your Oregon rules, you can be sure to be paying there IF you don't have a receipt for sales taxes elsewhere.

You may be complicating it more than needed depending on your plans. If it's purchased, taxed & registered in CA (even temp. tags for transport) I'd figure it coming to Oregon just as if you'd moved between states. (transfer registration (re-register) in your home state)

Sales tax for cars is usually collected as part of the initial registration process when bought from an individual, that can change when bought from a Dealer who has to collect on the sale even if it's not being registered right away.

General rulings fall on where the transaction is completed for anything, your state can collect on items shipped from elsewhere (delivery taken in your state) even when they leave another state tax free.

Easiest to talk to a Dealer where you plan to purchase, and check with your local once you have that info..

Quick reading of the CA info. looks like you could have it shipped and pay in Oregon, check that closely to be sure of how it's handled.

I just bought mine out of state...all paperwork done via FedEx and email...Licensing in my state without issue...I have purchased many vehicles out of state...ask them if they are a reciprocal state...meaning they will license the car for you in your state. SC, NC, and Florida will do that for us here in GA...

There are TONS of ST's for sale in Colorado. I've owned a 2014 and a 2015 both ST1's.

Loveland Ford has 3 on the lot right now.

My advice is to buy an ST1 and one that's not in a rust belt.
