Shrug. It seems silly to not take advantage of the experience of others.

I know what you mean there but still kind of harsh, that is why these forums exist, to share info. I had zero experience with summer tires. I really didn't know that was what my car had until after I had bought it. I assumed they were all seasons. Ask me about all terrains or mud terrains and I can talk there.

This video (start at like the 3:00 mark to see summer tires in the rain) helps a lot.

Thanks, that was a good video...it certainly explains why Ford says I no longer have a car that I can use to visit my Tahoe home in winter!

Winter tires would help then, but it doesn't replace awd + winter tires when things get tricky.

I've had no problems in the rain about 50*. Wish I could afford a decent set of winter tires or all-seasons, difficult to drive this thing in the snow especially since its my first manual.

And as I understand it there's not enough tire clearance to allow chains. I'd have to check the manual to see if that includes cables.

Dealership/salesman at fault there as well. Even when I picked up my car I told the salesman I wouldn't be picking it up if the roads were snowy (my snow rubber was at the house, car purchased in January) and he was baffled. I've seen two STs this week, both still on the OEM rubber and temps haven't exceeded freezing here all week. We're getting "near whiteout" conditions now.

The only allowable size for using chains is the 16" wheel listed in the suppliment manual. You should at a minimum be running a set of all seasons if not dedicated winter tires under 50f as the compounds in summer tires get hard and don't have the grip that winter tires do in those conditions.
