Is he currently in Germany, or was he stationed overseas away from Germany and is waiting to return to Germany, which is what it sounded like, as the ST was to be delivered in Germany and his wife would break it in first until he got back.

Unless I'm mis-reading this.

Great news! Our Focus ST will arrive to Germany in less than 2 months! I will return home from deployment in about 3 months, so it should be there when I got home. I'm very excited. My wife will be there to pick it up, and will be the driver for its first miles My question is, how many miles until the engine/turbo are "broken in?" I told my wife not to beat on the car too much. But after how many miles should she be able to put the pedal down and have some fun on the autobahn? If anyone knows the answer to this obscure question please let me know. Thank you!

Thanks for quoting the manual. Obviously I misremembered the "extensive" bit as saying more than it does.

Yes thanks for freedom........

I'm just trying to drop a gear on the freeway at times, and try to vary the RPM some while in 5th on a manual trans. Other than that trying to stay back from 4K RPM. I'm going on 400 miles now. Trying to apply some throttle and vacuum at times as well. I'm at the point of starting to maybe zing it a little more?

^^^ I can't argue with people who use the search function. That's what's it for.

I hope that new cars don't really require on ald fashioned break in. Didn't drive my new car for the first time until 300 some miles, and the car was driven half way across the state and back before it got to me literally.

Cars have a "mild break in" now. Unusually it consists of two rules.

1. Don't WOT it
2. Don't hold an RPM (so no cruise control)

That would apply for the first 500 miles. After that you can thrash the car.

That is exactly what worries me, because that is probably exactly how the car was driven for the first 300 miles or so.
