Down pipe with or without tune?

I'm going to buy a Cobb high flow catt down pipe, would I need a tune with it? Would I run risk of something bad happening?

A tune is the most useful (and important) mod. to be done for performance. Best done before anything more than Air filter or CAT back exhaust is changed.

Cobb's site lists a tune as the first mod to be done before changing anything else with their "staged" performance packages.

For Custom tuning (adjusted for whatever mods. you are currently installing) you could contact Tom (Focuspower, or 1turbofocus on this site). He offers a one price deal with tuner & custom tune, updated at no charge for any future mods. (original owner). More effort on your part to get it set up optimally, with you doing datalogs for him to make adjustments from for your particular car. Major advantages include personal help with any issues (he can even work your computer remotely to show you how it's done) and the ability to make changes as you desire rather than be limited to a set of std. options.

I don't think Tom does much tuning with the newer ST, he's said he also hates these cars so I can't recommend him for them, although he may be familiar with the base MK1-3 even with turbo kits on the older cars.

I'd recommend Mountune, Steeda or Cobb instead.

SCT also does not have a good tuning device or base tune for the ST.

Id go with Cobb, I like their setup on the Subis and I have a DP going on my STI as soon as it's ceramic coated.

Exactly this. Tom is very anti-ST. Go with Cobb or someone using the AP. When I order mine I'm going with Justin at FreekTune.
