If I was buying a Mustang I'd buy the GT;I think he's just shwoing you can make ponies with something different since a Mustang is so obvious. For the money you could just by a WRX and whoop both cars stock for stock but that's not the point either. It's cool to see a fwd driver go fast at the strip but I'd want it to go fast in the corners too.
My Type R was down almost 150hp vs my DSM and around a tight autox course my Eclipse just couldn't hang but in a straight line it was about 2 seconds quicker.

It still doesn't make sense. For the price of an ST with Recaros, you can get a Mustang V6 with the Performance Package and the Mustang will stomp the Focus in the 1/4 mile all day long and both cars have lapped Streets of Willow within 1 second of each other. 1:28 for the Focus and 1:29 for the Mustang. It's also worth noting the Mustang's brakes won't fade after the first lap like the Focus.

The OP says the guy bought the Focus ST for a fuel efficient daily driver...
Sounds more like he bought it to show off.

QFT. "Look what I can do in a NOT Mustang!"

There was a simpler, similarly priced solution: Base GT Brembo. Stomp the ST into oblivion and never look back.

You can get a focus st for 20k on sale, obviously the strip down model. also its more practical it has 4 doors and gets decent mileage around town. I mean you could get the v6 manual with the upgraded diff though. Handling wise it isn't as graceful. But if your just going in a straight line then I agree a mustang would of been the best bet for better times. To each his own.

Unless you have some serious mods done to your 18 year old Pontiac flaming turkey, you will probably be embarrassed by a base model V6 Mustang these days...

Sure if the v6 is doing low 13s in the quarter... I've smoked GTs for years till they finally went back to the 5.bro

Quickest all-motor 3.7 is currently running 12.609 @ 108.39, with several others in the 12's/ close to 12's: http://cyclonemustangs.com/?page_id=268

The new 6 is pretty potent.

The mpg is a valid argument. If your taking it easy you can get way better than a V6 stang. Obviously if you drive around at WOT you wont get good fuel economy in either car but if you do a decent amount of hwy you can average low to mid 30s with the focus.
