Bad luck?

Does the zx3 stock transmission suck? Or did I just have bad luck with it dying on me after 34k miles. Because Im planning on turboing my focus and if the transmission cant handle what power it is taking now im gonna be having second thoughts about turboing. Or could I get a well built transmission from somewhere? And where would I get that? Thanks

Are you auto or manual?

If you have an auto, you can get a built one at http://www.lentechautomatics.com/, but it'll be pretty expensive between the built tranny and the turbo kit. You might want to consider trading in your current Focus for one with a manual...the MTX-75 is rated to just a little over 300 WHP, and everyone knows that a manual is just more fun to drive than an auto

What happened? The MTX-75 is supposed to be a pretty bullet-proof transmission...

do you think a cheap short shifter could have something to do with screwing up the transmission? cause i had one, but now have a steeda in the mail which will be replacing the $15 ebay brand one in a few days

Should I upgrade the diff before turboing or not worry about it for now? I mean with the extra power is it going to break within weeks or do I have time to save money to upgrade it. And how much do those cost and where should I look to buy one? Thanks.

The Quaife is supposed to be the best, but they're raising/have raised the prices on their MTX-75 ATB differential since Jag is using it in their cars now, its all price-fixing; they figure Jaguar owners have lots of money, and they won't have a problem with paying out the ass for a differential. Focus Sport and BAT still list their Quaifes at the "old" price ($700), but that could be because they still have some in stock from before the prices jumped. If you can't get one, the Torsen is supposed to be almost as good, and its somewhat cheaper (closer to $600 depending on where you get it.) AFAIK, only Focus Sport (www.focussport.com) and BAT Inc. (www.batinc.net) have the Quaife, while you can get the Torsen at most of the usual retailers; McNew's (www.mcnewsautomotive.com), Focus Central (www.focus-central.com), BAT (see above) among others.
