Turboing questions

So basically these questions are for Tom. After spending much time over on FocalJet and consistently getting rude answers, I thought it was time to bring it here. Basically, I have a ZX3 Zetec 5spd with 131K on the odometer. I am interested in your DIY kit with a Comp turbo. Is my mileage too high to boost my car? I am basically just looking for 220-250 at the wheels (or just enough to spank stock 350z's). So Tom since you are the guru, is this possible on my motor? What all would need to be upgraded on my completely stock drivetrain? Will the clutch hold up? Anything else that you can think of to throw in there, feel free. I need all the info I can get...

the 131k will depend on how well the engine has been cared for. check the compression if it is good and oil has been changed decently, i say boost it. the clutch will hold ok, hard shifting did cause my stock one to slip when i was stock motor running 220whp, but easy shifting it held.

nice choice on the kit and tuner

Like stated , I would do a compression test , Maybe change timing belt if it hasent been done , clutch wouldnt hurt but run it till it does slip but with 113,000 be expecting it

Flush the cooling system , 180 thurmostat , cooler plugs and just over all make sure things are working properly

Yes you will find FF a much nicer place and people that astually know what there talking about here

Let me know if I can help more

Tom

just for curiosity on my part boss. what would you consider to be good compression on a stock zetec to proceed with boost? this is just for me personally. 140psi? 160psi?

I'm on FJ and I have no idea what you're talking about "rude answers." Someone on there told you to check compression...I told you to stay below 240whp...a couple comments about having a spare motor on hand. What do you take as rude?

You definitely are not one of the rude people bmylez, you in fact seemed to help quite a bit, and I really appreciate it. I take "rude" as getting smartass answers to my questions from a few certain people that try to make you feel stupid on the Jet any time that I post a thread. That's what these forums are for is to ask questions and learn, therefore I just try to learn all that I can considering my knowledge is nowhere near everyone else's when it comes to technical questions. Like stated, I really do appreciate everyone's info and help...

But back on track...what kind of compression numbers should I look for consistently across each cylinder Tom? What about the rods and bearings?

As Tom said in his previous post, you shouldn't look for high numbers with an old motor. A guy on here said he was in the 170s. As long as it's not terribly low and they're all very even, you're fine.

What do you want to know about rods and bearings? If your motor is running fine right now and is maintained, you shouldn't have to bother with them. The Zetec rods are a little weak which is why we're advising you to run a max of 240whp.

Yes it runs fine now and has been maintained well. I was just wondering if the rod bearings would hold up with the mileage...but I am guessing they should. Thanks a ton guys...

Just to get an idea, should I be in the ballpark of running with a stock 350z with 240whp? Sorry for dumb questions, just trying to get some ideas before I spend all this money.
