Post Synthetic Oils - Worth It? Let's Find Out

Welcome to my thread on synthetic oils. :) The below link goes to the article, "Synthetic Oil: Rx For Long Engine Life", by Curt Scott, which is the best article I have ever seen on the topic in my 25 years in the automotive industry. You will find this article very educational, informative and enjoyable to read. :) I've seen other topics of discussion in this forum with some very inaccurate information being tossed around, (if not all out dis-information), some of it from parties that apparently have an axe to grind, for whatever reason. So I thought I'd post this article to share some industry knowledge containing valuable information. Many people ask the question, "Are synthetic oils worth it?". Based on my experience of 25 years in the automotive industry, with reams of certifications, I can say without any question, yes. Enjoy the article below. :) I hope it is of help in clearing up this age-old question that seems fraught with unqualified personal opinions not based on fact, rumors, repeated old wives tales, mis-information and inaccurate information not supported by any science or controlled studies. If anyone has any questions, please feel free to post them here and as I have time, I will answer them for you. :)

Here, here brother! :) I haven't used dead-dino lubes in over 25 years in any mechanical equipment I own, right down to the lawnmower. I've used nothing but synthetic oils, (in specific, AMSOIL), and have saved thousands of dollars in un-needed oil changes, improved fuel economy, reduced maintenance and repair costs, as well as un-needed vehicle replacement costs.
After reading the, "Synthetic Oils: Rx For Long Engine Life", it's a no brainer. :)

Just to clear some things up , If you had read what was posted these many times the debate was amsoil , RP and other oiles like those , it has NEVER been synthetic oils vs base oils

Yes I am a firm believer in synthetic oils but again that has never been the issues , So that being said I guess this can be over with ?

There has been a lot of dis-information and inaccuracies being posted on the topic of synthetic oils and I thought it would help educate those that may have been negatively influenced by the unfortunate dis-information on this topic, that, "there's no difference in synthetic oils", blah, blah, blah. Nothing could be further from the truth of course. To even suggest there is no difference in synthetic oil brands would be tantamount to saying there is no difference amongst tire brands, or spark plugs, or exhaust systems, or brake pads, stereo systems, or a Ford as compared to a Chevy, or Dodge, or Toyota, etc., etc. But of course, no intelligent person would ever suggest such hogwash.

In fact, one topic I haven't seen discussed are what I call the, "pretend-it's-a-synthetic oil", oils. Many, (if not most),of the so called, "synthetic oils", available at our common discount auto parts stores aren't true PAO or Ester based synthetic oils in the traditional sense of the term, but are merely more highly refined dead-dino oils, know as, Group III, "synthetic oils". For some odd reason we allow this, what is in my opinion, deception of the consumer whereas it is my understanding that in Europe this is illegal.

There's a lot more to know about oils than some might think. :)

arguing on the internet is like running in the special Olympics. even if you win you're still retarded.

BTW i too am a firm believer in synthetic motor oil but not in RP or AMSOIL.

I don't like where this thread is going.

Mr. Boone, be prepared to source your information from credible sources. Not like the Amsoil monkeys sourcing their info from the Amsoil site or sales manual. Hopefully there will be interesting information to be posted here but please lets not turn this into a sh!tstorm.

With my experience in the automotive industry, I agree with your conclusion on Royal P., but not with AMSOIL. I've used AMSOIL for 25 years with nothing but stellar results and cost savings. :)
