HELP! Tuning my 2008 SES Focus

Hi, I'm very new to car tuning. I was wondering if anyone could help me.

I want to boost the power in my focus without doing any major work.

I've heard about chips that boost horsepower but have no idea where to get them, or which one to get.

If someone could help me, I would be very greatful

Well in my opinion a tune isn't really worth it unless you have some bolt ons to start with. Maybe get yourself a CAI to start. You won't really add a lot of HP using a tune with a stock car. Although it would probably help out with your MPG and drivability of the car.

For your Focus you can get an X3 by a compant called SCT. You need a custom tune file for that though since there are no pre-programmed files for the Duratec engine. I'm sure Tom here will be able to help you out.

do not get a "chip" you want to get a tune and a tuner as tetra stated. if you find a good deal on a "chip" do not buy it, they are a load of crap, plus you can't chip a focus. i agree with the CAI i just put one on mine and love it! i also have the 08, then you are probly wanna go with an exhaust, it will help with the cai. you'll notice the diffrence in sound when you put the CAI on, which is a nice sound for the crappy exhaust. but for a tune and tuner, get a hold of 1turbofocus. he is freaking smart. he just finished up on a buddy's of mine car and well its awesome.

Thanks a lot. Now another question, what brand CAI should I look into and about how much should it cost?

Well for your 2008 the options are limited. I think there are more than 3-4 types but the two most commonly heard of are:

1) FSWerks CAI / www.focussport.com
2) Steeda SRI / www.steedafocus.com

The difference of the two is the FSWerks is a true CAI and positions the filter under the car away from all the engine heat. The pros are cooler air comes in, no heatsoak. But the con is if you hit huge puddles you can hydrolock the engine. You really need to be stupid and forge a river almost to get hydrolock, just drive smart and you'll be OK.

As for the SRI, the filter is positioned behind the headlight away from the ground. It has a heatshield to protect itself againt heatsoak, but doesn't always work. I had an SRI and got heatsoak on a really hot and humid day. My car started to bog. This is why I switched to the FSWerks CAI.

Hope that helps.

Yea see I live in Michigan, we get a lot of rain but it also gets pretty hot. I think I still might go with the FSWERKS it sounds pretty good.

Ok, another problem! If I go about 40MPH and slow down fast my car will stall every once in a while. What would cause this to happen?

sorry just re read this post..... hmm the slowing down... is it ATX or MTX? could be a number of things... have you gotten a code reader and to see it it has thrown a code? do a search on stalling and see if it has been brought up... could be your MAF, timing, bad gas, fuel filter. doubt its the fuel pump... anywyas... try a search and it may get you something...

With out a log it would be hard to say why it stalls
