Tom you're gonna kill me....

hey Tom. do you remember the red zx3 right after christmas you did a tranny swap on plus sticking on torsen diff, fidanza flywheel, vf mounts, and tranny case swap? i also paid for a nitrous tune awhile back but havent gotten it yet because i still cant get an analog signal for datalogging. anyway i did a bad thing lol. i ran the giggle gas at the track on thursday without a tune for the second time in as many weeks. first time i only did 35 with more fuel, colder plugs and retarded timing. raced a buddy of mine with a k swap civic and he whooped me. i couldnt stand it because i would have had him if my 60ft had been the same as his. he had 22 inch tall and 10 inch wide slicks and all i had were my mickey thompson radials. i told him this and of course he couldnt stand it. since we both use univeral lug pattern wheels (4x100 and 4x108 on the same rim) we swapped wheels and tires at the track this last thursday. i also waited until he wasnt looking and put the 100 shot nozzle in while i tweaked the ecu again. my neighbor and i had fabricated a solid tranny mount and a solid steel transmission mount bracket (stock is that crappy cast aluminum peice, ya know what im talking about) to put on there because i broke so many of the cast aluminum ones. you see where im going with this... anyway i tried to not only spray out of the hole but also launch from around 5000 rpms. first and second time it was cherry, hence my new times in my signature. however the third time i succeeded in ripping the bolts out of the transmission case that bolt to the bracket which bolts to the dogbone mount which bolts to the frame. 3 passes on a 100 shot without a tune and the motor survived. you gotta see how i fixed the transmission in the parking lot at the strip. post pictures later. oh yeah it was worth reading all this because you're gonna get a giggle.
pic goes here
anyway, i whooped him and i also nearly flattened his tires because they were rubbing on the coil springs a little bit even with the spacers. bad thing is that i only got him by 3 tenths of a second and only barely got a better 60ft than him. do you see any way i could strengthen this jerry rigging setup to make it more permanent without pulling the tranny and re-tapping the holes? i dont wanna pull the tranny, thats why i brought the whole car to you after christmas lol.

First side stepping the clutch at 5000 isnt going to make your 60`s that much better and you only going to tear stuff up , lots of stuff , maki one part stronger it just finds the next weakest

You may be able to get to them to drill them and heli-coil then this also makes them stronger

yup yup on the tearing stuff up part. i just felt like telling you about that little bit. i figured reading about my stupidity would give you a laugh lol. i just wanted to beat him whatever the cost. when you get my competetive juices flowing ill go off and do some crazy stuff to win. got my mickeys back and i think ill just stick with them from now on. they keep me in the 2.0 range easy enough and sometimes if i hit it right ill get into the 1.9 range. anyway i wont be working on the car today due to rain (driveway mechanic) but when i do im putting the "peice of crap" cast aluminum bracket back on there as well as the VF lower mount, the solid mount we made really makes the vibration nearly unbearable. i now know why ford engineered that bracket to be weak. its so that it will break before the more expensive tranny mount does and before you do what i did and strip the transmission case or outright bust it, or break a CV for that matter.

EDIT: just curious. what were your 60s in your monster drag focus?

I think in the 21-23 range , I never once broke an axle , mount , or anything else all the years I or my Wife and son raced the Focus

ah thats because that monster spun all through 1st, 2nd, and most of 3rd even with slicks. i had just enough of a lack of power to snag and split. and barely bark 2nd. in all honesty that was WAY too much tire for my car. would you like to take a look at redneck engineering at its best when we come down on the 16th? im not going to use that solid mount anymore but i figure you or some1 else might want it to use?
