zetec stroker kit

Tom, what is needed for ur stroker kit?? new flywheel?? i wouldn't think so, but i don't know. anyways, looking for 250 whp NA. I actually have a reason, Rally racing, i have to stay NA for my bracket. and it has to be the original motor for that model, meaning no dura in a 00-04 focus. so anyways, looking at what is needed for that. Ive got the top end covered, just need to know what i should go w/ for rods/pistons (13.5:1 CR) and how much would you charge for this??

Thanks,
mlb

you can have a dura in a zx3 in 03. I've seen those here and there in green states.

just make sure you build a motor to rev to around 9000. that will give you all kinds of room to work with going into and coming out of corners. a car that makes a little less power but revs 1000-2000 more rpms then the competition will almost allways win out.

I dont agree with this at all , if your engine isnt making power at 9000 there is no sence in running it there , In my dirt track days I ran against guys turning 8500 - 9000 and I only turned 6800 - 7000 and kicked there butt , Build an engine for the need of the engine high RPM isnt allways the answer and high RPM engines tend to not live as long

I would have to agree a 2.3 - 2.5 Dura engine would be more in line for what your doing sence you dont have much done yet , saying that if you choose to stay Zetec I would be more then happy to help you

For what your doing I would stay at about 12.5 to 12.8 , good ported head , FR Intake , FR TB , Comp stg3 cams ,30lb injectors , 3 inch MAF tube or a full custom 3 inch intake piping , 110 octane fuel

Tom

I've noticed alot of guys try to substitue high RPM's for lack of traction in different types of dirt/off road racing

I have friends that dirt track and usually run less power/rpms and still win alot of their races because they hook up so well when coming out of the corners.

IMO, its worthless to have more than 250 whp/wtq in a FWD rally car, you just cannot hookup. As for the rally car, i'm about 1/2 way done. Roll cage is going in this summer, so i'm pretty much gonna stay w/ the zetec. As for the valve train, Crower IV cams (.454" lift) and i've got the valvetrain to support it. my top end is done, just need to work on the bottom end. thats why i'm wanting to go w/ the stroker kit. I'm limited to 2.4 L NA or under, so going w/ a stroker kit for the dura wouldn't work. plus i know the zetec a little better. I also have the block capable of making power that high. (CFM oil pump, etc.) if i was starting from scratch i prolly would go w/ the PZEV. So i'm pretty much stuck w/ what i've got. and i like my car alot, so i'm not gonna change anything!! So anyways, any idea on the cost of ur stroker kit w/ rods/ and high comp pistons?? (definitely wil be running on 110 or 116)

That makes sense I was just making sure you knew the pzev was an option. I forgot how much you had into your engine.

MLB you definitely want to stay with the zetec right? not only because you have to for class restrictions but you also have all that head work done on your zetec as is.. would be a shame to throw that all away to throw a duratec in. it'd be better to buy a duratec focus just for rallying. Oh, and just so you know I might be running in a 1600 mile all pavement rally race in upstate NY this year..... Just afraid I might blow up my svt or get in a wreck

yes, definitely staying w/ the zetec. all i have to do is drop in the cams, and high comp pistons as all my headwork is done. may have to swap out a few buckets, but other than that, its all bottom end. Thats why i'm looking for the stroker kit and to Tom for help.
