This is a funny thing , There is no such thing as a MPG tune , only the "tuners" that charge another 40/45.00 for tunes offer these

Your fueling is already controled by the o2 sensor allways targeting 14.7 perfect for the best mileage and the ECU moniters the timing and adds more if the engine can stand it so with your being in closed loop ( non aggressive driving) your ECU will take care of the MPG

The people getting SUCKERED by other tuners need to know this so pass the word around

o really, now thats something i would never exspect. ... you say that its controled by the 02's..... well i don't have any of them connected... will this harm the ecu, also confuse it??

^^^^^Well that's the reason for 02s in the first place.....they monitor the exhaust system, and give the information to the ECU. This allows the ECU to adjust the mixture, maintaining optimal performance/mpg.

Removing the O2s.....probably won't hurt the ECU, but everything else is likely to suffer. The CEL is going to come on also, unless you do some electrical tricks to fool the ECU. Removal of the O2 sensors is also illegal in every state I know about.

As far as a "tune" being unable to improve MPGs.....I find that hard to believe. You might not be able to get both a performance jump, and increased MPG. But I would think you could get one or the other. Many manufacturers release updated ECU programs frequently.....and I read a statement from Ford about six months ago, promising a new program that would give better MPG. Never saw it though...

Ok engine efficiency comes from fuel and timing , as you stated the ECU controles the fueling for " maintaining optimal performance/mpg" why in closed loop (cruise/part throttle)

The ECU does the same thing with the fueling so what would there be to adjust to make it any better ?

Fuel and timing is also adjusted by IAT and ECT to target optimal mpg.

Dont know how many I have seen that paid for a "MPG" tune and the guy they paid it to is laughing all the way to his bank

The statement Ford released (don't have the link), was talking about my '06, if I remember correctly. They stated that the ECU program that was first released with that year/model was optimized for emissions (no doubt). But since it's release Ford had come up with some changes that could give better MPG, without affecting performance, and keeping emissions within guidelines.

They went on to state something like...."In our constant efforts to improve our products", blah, blah. Seems like if it is possible to attain a better MPG with these cars, like Ford implies, an after-market tuner could do the same thing....perhaps with an adjustment to the timing curve, maybe something else. I'll keep hoping anyway....

I told you about this in your other thread btw...

Ford probly leaned it out 0.1 afr in open loop and called it better mileage and increased performance

do your tunes do the same thing as an Apexi SAFCII?

the reason I ask this is because i used to have an SE-R Spec V that I dyno tuned with a SAFCII. i was able to get hit a 13:1 A/F ratio and noticed my car felt a lot better than before. I gained about 10 horses and noticed an increase in my mileage. My mods at the time were I/H/E.
