stumble/missfire

my car is stumbling very bad in boost. my instructor said it feels like a secondary ignition problem. i am going to change the plugs tonight. i have the copper plugs and i have had them in for about 6months now. i hope this is the problem. it is just weird to me that it started so suddenly this morning. i was wanting your opinion on this, i really hope it is the plugs but they look fine...

sounds like it might be.

does it do it within a specific RPM range? only under load?

def start with the plugs then work your way along the lines. also check the wires and the four tiny wires that go into the base of the coilpack. They are notorious for being a little short and going teets up

no it doesnt do it at a specific rpm just under boost. when boost starts raising it stumbles bad. other than that nothing. i am changing the plugs as soon as my car cools off. hopefully that will fix the problem.

What about the spark plugs? If you have stock, have them gapped at 0.051, get motorcraft from Oreilly's, if you go to autozone make sure you get FE version (last two letter for the part number). That is the one for the Zetec.

Also, one way to check for problems will be get in the car, tune the AM to 770 and drive it until it starts acting up, if you hear distortions, then the problem lies with the coil. Or you missing a spark somewhere...
