Turbo vs Supercharger

Tell me what you went with and why

If you went with a SC give me the reasons why the next guy should buy a SC over a Turbo

This isnt a pissing contest but a place to learn why one over the other

Tom

WHAT: Turbo

WHY: I couldn't reach my power goals with a SC, I like the fact that when not in boost the turbo is easier on the motor since even when not in boost a SC still puts stress on the engine due to it still being driven off the crank.

The ricer in me really digs the sound of a BOV!!!!

REGRETS: None

WHAT: Procharger Supercharger
WHY: Wanna keep my SVT as stock as possible (was planning to put JR BBK, but got SUPERB deal on PC) as well as I'm taking my SVT to europe and it's easier for me to pass inspections with SC (easy to take off if necessary)

I wanted RS, but it's only EU version.....so I bougt his smaller brother (SVT/ST170)...tons of good reviews except one performance issue......somebody wanted to ST be called ST200 to be perfect.....so PC is enought to fullfill this for me.....

REGRETS: Will see....I will be doing some hill racing back in EU so update later ;_)

P.S.: I forgot this: A while ago ...like in 2003-04 when I had only my ZTW I contacted Tom first time, because I was planning to do Turbo on it......but Tom has discontinued his kit, so I just put few bolt-on's on it, bought myself GSR-750 for speed ;_) and 1.8T Jetta as a second car....which was replaced in 2005 by SVT ;-) so don't get me wrong...I really like Turbos.....this will be my first SC....back in EU I was driving Honda Integra Type-R,Accord Type-R and Civic 1.6 VTEC-VTI

WHAT: SC

WHY: I like to try things out for myself. I already realized the advantages of turbos, but was still interested in superchargering with no regrets. Plus with the 2.3 Stroker, I am satisfied with what will be made, and perhaps even better. Give me 4 yearsof having fun with this, and I am switching to Turbo. I just like to try things out. Expensive? Yes....fun? Yes

As for reasons why the next guy should by a SC, I don't think I really have any, that is something that person should decide, not myself.

WHAT: both but not at the same time, lol. I bought a JRSC BBK about 6 months ago, and i just bought a Roush turbo kit a week ago.

WHY: i bought the supercharger because it was cheap and reliable. i bought the turbo when i wasnt satisfied with the power the supercharger made. after looking at dyno sheets and knowing if i had my car dyno'd and compared it to the turbo's i would be disappointed i decided that i had to go turbo. so i am switching to a turbo and going to NC to have Tom tune it for me. yeah it was more expensive, but hell yeah its going to be worth it. im a power person and after having a supercharger i realized it even more, lol. and plus i am confident that my car will be reliable after Tom tunes it. plus, lol, just like orangesvt said, the ricer in me really loves the sound of a bov.

REGRETS: i regret not going turbo when Tom told be to 6 months ago, lol. but in a way i dont regret it because i have enjoyed the experience and the knowledge i have gained about superchargers and turbos over the last few months

What: Procharger 10 PSI kit with 5.7" crank pulley tuned by Tom.

Why: Couldnt beat the price. Stealth. Good Peak Power. BOV action. Totally predictable and always the same due to the belt driven nature. More effiicent than Roots. Almost no modifications needed to work with stock engine. Easily upgradeable. Finally, I just like it!

Regrets: Mid-Range, non-race power could be better. Still suffers more than turbos due to altitude and it being engine dependent. Low Tq.

What: SC, JRSC BBK

Why: Cheap & Easy, Not so much power to cause early termination of the engine/tranny/Cv's etc..

Recomendations: With an LSD and good tires the power from this setup can almost be put to the ground 100% anymore power and I would be spinning the tires Too much for my personal tastes.

Regrets: not upgrading the clutch and dif. while upgrading the power.

what: Procharger

Why: I wanted boost and didn't feel like waiting who knows how long for a turbo. Plus I got a good deal on a brand new kit. Easily upgradable. Ease of installation / removal.

Regrets: Not getting the right injectors the first time around. More Tq would be nice but I am happy with what I have right now.

What: ProCharger. Why: Much eaiser to install/deinstall, better cat lite off for better emissions in cold weather (snifer trucks around here during winter months will & can call you in for inspection), when not in boost the PC is easier on the motor & its suroundings because I rather have mechanical stress on my billet crank than heat stress in the whole engine compartment when I'm in arizona & new mexico in summertime(steel stronger than rubber),CARB approval pending, does not spin the tires as much as a turbo @ my power goal on my bataam weigh FWD car(300-350whp) while highway crusing, (good tires not cheap),adds pressure to only one side of the motor, free power from the pressurized intake stroke, no bov noise to alert all the childred driving their off the rack street terrors their mommy & daddy bought them (sorry about all the whys, but you did ask). Regrets, yea right age does have some advantages.
