How do I know if my car has a custom tune????

I just bought it this week (2003 zx5 SVT) and it feels pretty strong, I can't tell if the TC is still kicking in under 20 mph when it is turned off, and it idles at about 800 rpms.

So...I am still trying to figure it out. Is there anything else to look for that I am missing?

Thanks.

to find out if the tc kicks on even if its turned off.... turn the tc off, then, try to do a burnout

if you get some nice smoke goin, you know that it might be an aftermarket tune

That is what I did, and it doesn't seem like the TC is kicking in, but I'm still not sure.

Any other ideas???

you can still do a nice burnout with TC but it makes a weird sound...not just tires spinning. You idle sounds about normal to me.

You should be able to tell when the intake runners switch over. Stock svt switches over at 6000 rpm, tuned svt's are generally around 5000-5300 rpm's.

Sure you don't "need" a tune if you don't mind a ridiculous floating idle, poor fuel economy, no power on the low end, poor throttle response, an incorrect air/fuel ratio, a non-defeatable TC, hard starting, surging while warming up and engine stalling.

I disagree with Tom, ALL SVTFs need a tune, Tom's just happens to be the best.

That's the thing -- I don't seem to have any of those "problems" (idle, poor low end, poor throttle response, etc.). I will have to check when the intake runners switch over -- is it a different sound?

Thanks for everyone's input.
