Steeda Short Ram
Does anyone in Texas have the Steeda short ram intake? I am looking into buying one, but I have heard that when its hot out it causes "heat soak," and the summers here are brutal as hell. I'm don't know too much about heat soak, but I've heard it bogs down the engine. If you know anything about it, please let me know!

Have one on my 2000 zx3 zetec. Noticed difference above 3000k rpm. Could pass faster than b4. Even stock intake has heat soak. Used temp gun on both and tubes were around 120 degrees or so. Problem is short ram is sucking under hood temp air instead of outside air. Even with 100 degree outside air it is still better than 120 or so under hood air. This is mainly at idle and low speed though as higher speeds reduce the under hood temps. Still need to get my probe extension so I can monitor from inside the car to get an accurate picture.

See thats what I was thinking, I was just making sure that it doesn't rob performance too much

I have a intake very similar to it and I've data logged intake temps as high as 160*. I don't feel much of a difference as I used to but I have have almost every mod so power isn't much of a problem for me as it used to be. Also as soon has you start moving the temps drop. Anyways some feel it more than others.

Don't forget Paul you also have a header unwrapped and unshielded. Raises you idle and low speed under hood temps abit compared to mine. I also have an AEM cold air intake but haven't tried it out yet. You have one Paul(hanging on your garage wall) which one do you think did better in performance for you?

Well I ran my fastest time ever of 15.7 with the CAI but, in all it felt like it gave me a better top end but the short ram gave me better tq. So I felt more hp with the cai but more tq with the short ram. I never data logged my car with the header wrapped. I don't plan on wrapping this header again since I'll be getting the SVT one.

Oh and I don't use my CAI since I don't have a inner fender cover to protect the filter from the tire and what ever the tire wants to throw at it.

I had the Steeda SRI for years on my zetec and loved it. Great mod, go for it! The CAI I have now is away from the engine, but next to the pavement more. What temp do you think the asphalt is when it is 105 here in Austin? 150 maybe? Either way Texas heat will get you. Enjoy!

Texas heat ftw haha.

I had the steeda SRI and I really didnt like it. . Even when it was cool my car ran like it was 110 outside and killed my gas mileage. I have no hard evidence behind both of those, though. Main reason I got rid of it was that it ALWAYS sounded like I was hard on the throttle flooring it everywhere when I drive like a granny. Anyone who knows me, knows I hate loud cars, so it had to go!!

I have the K&N FIPK now and love it. Still has some issues, but its only loud when I want it to be :)
