For an 01, the two available engines were a 2.0 SOHC or Single Over Head Cam(also known as SPI or Split Port Injection as noted on engine valve cover) or the 2.0 DOHC Dual Over Head Cam(Zetec). I believe duratecs were only offered starting in 2003.5

Ecoh is correct as the duratec didnt start until mid to late production in 2003 year. After the tune up i would say do suspension and brake work it makes a world of difference in how you ride and stop... me personally brake work is first because you can have all the power in the world but it wont do any good unless you can bring it to a stop. Just my opinion.

If you are looking for the biggest performance boost..

Suspension will help your car in the turns, and will make it look better on the road.

If you want more looks.. Tint it.

Thus the saying needs more drop and tint

Spark plugs(motorcraft or autolite are best), spark plug wires(try and get a factory replacement set, or a good quality set), fuel filter, air filter, PCV valve, oil and oil filter. That should be a good start.

To do the fuel filter you will need the proper disconnect tool so you will have to buy the tool or pay someone to do it. Otherwise everything else is straight forward and simple to do.

Leave it stock. Split ports don't usually have long lives( im sorry to inform u but u kinda have the worst engine to have in a focus). With little cash u say u have don't dump money in it. Just keep it alive. Plugs, plug wires, oil change, fuel filter, airfilter, trans flush would be a start.
