A/C and fan control problems

My 2002 Zetec has developed a problem with the fan control on the heater a/c module. The fan works only on speed 4, but the a/c light on the button is not on. At speeds 1-3 the fan does not work but the a/c light, on the a/c button, lights. Also, the air recirculation button does not seem to work. When I press it the light does not come on and there is not the boost in fan speed that can normally be heard. In this cold weather, the car mists up very quickly. Any ideas on what the problem is greatfully received.

You should've posted this in Ford Focus Technical Chat, but it's an easy answer if the fan still works on 4. What you need is a fan resistor pack. DC voltage can't be transformed, so resistors are used on motors for varying speed. 4 is full speed. Check our Complete How-To archive in my signature for instructions on installing the fan resistor if you don't have a service manual. It's a simple job that anyone can do- even with differences between UK and US Foci, it should still be simple.

I'm surprised your AC light works if the temps are below freezing. Usually it won't. When 15C weather comes around, you might want to see about getting some gauges to check and be sure that you don't have an overcharged system or a clogged orifice tube. I wouldn't bother with it if it still blows cold air though- never fix what isn't broken

Dead easy to do. Remove the glove box, look down near the floor to the right there is a small square plastic unit around 2" square. Think mine was blue? There is 1 screw holding it in. I got a replacement brand new from ebay about 12. Search 'focus resistor pack' on ebay first, then you will know what it looks like.
