2.5 swap?

Hello guys, My 2.3 has 188k miles and currently has some upper end noise. Its not the tumble flaps. The car ran low on oil and I was too late adding oil and shes very noisy now. The tumble flap connectors are disconnected and I was about to put the cossie knock off intake on I just purchased and this happened. I am interested in the 2.5 swap. I can get a 2.5 with lower miles, the ecu, and harness but does it matter about the vvt connector round or rectangle? Is it a pretty direct swap if I have all these items? I know it will need a tune but any input would be great. Thank you- Jon

2010-2012 2.5. I read about the swap above but did not understand why people swap the heads and I read Ill need something to make the cossie knock off work. I do not want to change the head. Itd be nice to have a list of what needs to be changed over from the 2.3

Also I was going with Tom for my tune until this happened so I realize he can tune this also. Will all factory gauges work also?

Does anyone know if I get a 2.5 engine engine harness and ecu, will it work with my 05 body harness? Need some help because the mechanic said my 2.3 needs a rebuild most likely.

Did you read the sticky?? I posted an ENTIRE list of everything you HAVE to use in the first post. In fact i replaced the 2.3 with the 2.5 engine in the same year car yiou have. If you don't change the head to the 2.3, then you need an adapter plate because the ports are to big on the 2.5 to seal correctly. You'll need to pull off the 2.5 timing cover and swap it with the 2.3 one along with the crank pully. Since you are doing that i would recommend you just pull the head and swap it <--from experience this will be about the same cost and make it easier to work with. edit: heck i even put the entire list of tools you'll need

Yes Ive read it but at the time didn't understand why swapping the old head makes sense. If I was going to swap it, Id want it rebuilt because it has 188k miles on it and do different cams, Im sticking with the 2.5 head and buying the adapter plate, maybe down the road Ill do different cams. I also have a cossie knock off intake and Ill do the bsd delete, not sure on the pcv delete yet though. Ill start a thread when I start this, buying a motor this weekend.

2.5 head is fine. TBH its just for ease of installation without excess parts. I've yet to see a dyno showing the 2.3 vs 2.5 head on a N/A engine. who knows if it gives you anything more. BSD is ok. The PCV hose is slightly larger on the (2013) 2.5 engine I got. I had some extra tubing that fit nicely as a conversion for it so i left it on. Otherwise I probably would have switched the pcv valve for the 2.3 one.

The biggest issue with running the 2.5 head is how the wiring lays over the valve cover. I had to extend one of the wires so I could route it around the oil fill cap. However, this is because i couldn't use the 2.3 pan and dipstick so i had to keep the 2.5 dipstick accessible which is through the valve cover. the 2012 SHOULD be able to work with the 2.3 oil pickup tube and 2.3 oil pan thus avoid that issue. Be good to know for sure, when you find out let me know and I'll add it to my write up so people can be aware of the differences.

Either way you gotta take the timing cover off and reset the timing. That's the biggest task IMO. also going to want the 2.3 intake cam w/ the 2.5 exhaust cam gear on it. Easy to do once you have removed the timing chain.
