SVT to Duratec 2.3???

Hey guys ! Many of you know me from my SVT wagon swap . Well I have a new project for this winter . It's a 2002 black SVT focus . It has roughly 160K on it . Only paid $500 for it , only issue is the motor is shot, the end of a rod went right through the side of the engine . It's broke right through right beside the crank sensor plug beside the transmission . So I've always wanted to build a Duratec car and I really want to get my hands on a 2.3 L to swap in . I think I'm pretty knowledgable when it comes to the wiring now . I've taken apart 2 of these cars now . What I really want to know is what the compatibility of the SVT interior harness will have with a Duratec car ECU . I mean wpuld I have to swap out the dash as well ? Pics of the $500 SVT below . I'm leaning towards parting it out aswell but . Motor mounts are another thing that's going through my head . I thought the Duratec mounts were slightly different .

Rear hatch has some rust on it . But it seems like this car would clean up well . That's the main thing that's stopping me from parting it out . I need to take a better look underneath as well .

First if your doing a swap do a 2.5 it'll be cheaper to get that block.

second you'll have to pull all the wiring and replace it with duratec wiring from a 2-door focus 03-07 including ECU and everything in between.

Airbags will likely be an issue as well, if you can find a focus that does not have them in the seats you should be fine there, but will need to swap out passenger and driver front airbags.

Really just need to find a donar car I think 05-07 would be best as it wouldn't have all the evap stuff to deal with as well and just use everything from that while building a 2.5 block.

The dash can stay the same but youll need a cluster from a duratec as well. I think they remained unchanged 03-07. Looks the same to me anyways from a physical perspective

EDIT: passenger motor mount and dogbone are the same I think. I KNOW the passenger one is. The driver side mount is different.

Downside is that it's a BIG job with durn near everything needing to be transferred.

Yeah, even the dash harness, duratec has a different cluster that plugs into it's own connector.

Engine, trans, axles and everything else for wiring etc.. Full strip & replace.

duratec will bolt into the shell with the duratec mounts.

P.S. - I see tunda typed the same, had this on the screen while on the phone.

thanks for the responses guys . Seems like more work than I was hoping for . Still it is an option , but I think the easiest thing to do is finding a good SVT motor to slap back in it . Ether that or strip it for parts .

Only problem with parting it..is that you are in Canada...I would venture to say most buyers would be in the US. Granted you could find someone is Canada but seems the US is more SVT buyer friendly.

What I'm thinking also. A dtech swap would be some work, a svt motor replacement would be the easiest.

Actually you would be surprised , there isn't as much demand for SVT parts here . But I always sell all the extra parts that I have.

I'm in talks with a guy who has an SVT engine for me , it's just a matter of price. Just looking at the car I'm starting to decide against parting it . The paint needs to a good buff of course and I think it would clean up very well . It's rough around the edges but a bit of tlc and this SVT could be a nice car once again .

Always hate to see something parted when it has a single mechanical issue, major or not. Crunched chassis or just totally worn out is another story.
