6-speed tranny for my ZX3 ???

I am wondering how much work and expense I am getting into if I want to put a Getrag 6-speed transaxle into my ZX3. The Getrag is out of a 2002 SVT. The ZX3 is a 2001. Both have 2 liter ztec engine blocks, so they SHOULD bolt up. The other issues are whether the ZX3 axles will work with the Getrag, or not ??? And will my stock ZX3 clutch mate up with the Getrag ???? If not, will the SVT clutch fit on my stock ztec crankshaft? And will the SVT axle shafts fit my ZX3 hub carriers and suspension geometry ???? Any light you can shed on this topic will be Very much appreciated !!!!

NO IDEA, but I have something that might help. Try to send an email to one of the focus performance oriented companies to see if they might be able to help out. I have seen SVT trannies on Ebay every now and then. Sounds fun and good luck. Also, the 6 speed will give you tighter ratios and thus help a little with acceleration. Have you considered just getting a gear and changing your ratio? I've seem them for the focus that aren't supposed to mess up your fuel economy too bad. I guess it all depends on what you are doing with your car. If you intend to put lots of highway miles on the car then the gear probably wouldn't be a great idea because your final drive is affected.

don't know of all the companies out there..
might wanna ask Sean Hyland Motorsport

it won't work. At all.

This has been covered many times before. Do a search. The engines are not the same, even though they are both 2.0L zetecs.

In addition, the mtx75 is a stonger, more reliable transmission than the getrag. Why would you want to swap?

From a Sport Compact Car review of the SVT Focus:

"Worst Feature: Gearbox. Sure, the shifter's great, but the gear ratios are way too tall. If you can break every speed limit in California in second gear, what are the other four for? The lack of a limited slip puts the last nail in the gearbox's coffin."

If anything you're going to hurt acceleration compared to the MTX-75. I used to think this mod couldn't be done, but in the past when I've said that, I've had it pointed out to me that it can be done, and I guess it has been done. Personally I wouldn't do it. Unfortunately I don't have the answers to the specific questions being asked, but it's not going to be a simple "take one out, put the other one in" swap.

Please try doing a search, this HAS been discussed many times before, and I'm 99% sure the people who schooled me on the fact that it can be done, said what you would have to do to make it work.

Well, let me clarify my answer

Anything can be done to any car. The question is, how much money do you have?

Putting a getrag in a zx3 is not a direct swap. You will have to fabricate and alter to get it to work.

Just like you can put a V8 in a zx3...it's been done a few times, but it also costs over $15K to do.

I was not aware that the ratios were soo bad on the 6 speed. I would stick with the 5 speed then. What are peoples thoughts are getting a gear though? I would think it maybe would help a small amount... but you could also just buy other various performance goodies to produce more HP and get the same benefit......

Well I guess v6focus can be FocusFanatic's guinea pig... if his wife hates it, we know it's not a worthwhile mod.
