Later Model Engine Into 2005

I have a relatively high mileage 2005 ZX5 that's going to need an engine, I'm sure this has been asked in posts before but I can't seem to find anything; What later (newer) model Duratec engines would be a "direct bolt-in" proposition into my 2005 ZX5 SES ? Thanks
Oops, Forgot to add the fact that it's an automatic car and I'd like to use another 2.0 not 2.3

Just put another duratec 2.0 if a 2.0 is what you want. They are the most plentiful and cheap and a direct swap. Pick one up to '07 for no problem. I believe the 08-10 ones work also, but don't quote me on that.

That information really helps ! I am interested in a direct swap, I'm sure the 2.3 is somewhat better , but honestly we're talking about 3/10 of liter here and if I have fitment issues with connectors or the need to swap out the engine management computer it's just not worth the hassle for my daily driver. I need reliability and you're absolutely right when you say the 2.0 is plentiful and cheap. Ford made tons of these, thousands upon thousands of these cars. The 2.3 on the other hand is a good bit more expensive at salvage yards from what I have seen. Now I'm sure there will be plenty of guys on here tell me I'm screwing up going back with the 2.0, but again....this is my ride to work each day, it HAS to be right. Thank you so much for the input, HUGE help. I wish I knew if an '08 - '10 would fit, I found one with 8 k miles on it in a junk yard, LOL. Thx again man !

The 08 will work, but you will need to swap a few parts over. For example, the thermostat will not be the same. The throttle body is not the same, and the intake manifold might not be the same. The basic block is the same. It will work, but it won't be a simple drop-in.
