Building FrankenFocus (Yes...AWD)

So I finally got the ZX3. This project can officially get underway. I'll grab some pictures of it this weekend and post them up. The car isn't in as good of shape as I wished, but it looks to be all there. So the goal for this car is to be 4G63 powered and AWD via an 8.8 rear end. Right now the car is 95% together so here is my overall game plan

step 1 - Strip the car of things that I know I won't need (engine, trans, unneeded wiring and modules (airbag, abs, ecu, cruise). All internal accessories need to function still.
step 2 - Get engine/trans/t-case mounted in the car (custom mounts, possibly a tubular front cradle to make room for the t-case and drive shaft)
step 3 - Engine/trans wiring - get it to run off starting fluid or some makeshift adapter to the factory fuel pump (if I haven't stripped it yet)
step 4 - "To the wheels" parts mounted and fabricated (8.8 mounted, drive shaft and half shafts fabricated, brakes working properly, exhaust at this time too)
step 5 - Body and interior - weld in drive shaft tunnel and spare tire plate, get some good front seats (love to get some Evo seats like Jay has), cables made for the shifter, make the body look good (maybe green since it is the FrankenFocus)

Overall, I want the car to look as stock as possible unless they open the hood or look under it. I plan to run the exhaust to a stock location and I also plan to use Focus bolt pattern wheels (wider than stock but still Focus) I need to sit down and figure out what axles I can run to keep the same 4 bolt pattern. I know the 80s/90s Mustangs had a 4 bolt pattern so I'm hoping it is close. Worst case I end up with two different bolt patterns of the same rims with the same width and offset.

I know that some of you guys get my idea behind the project and some don't. I'm not going to debate if or if not I should do this, so don't bother. I have laid this path and I am going to start walking it. If you do however have a better idea or a suggestion for how to do something, I am all ears.

One thing I do need is to come up with a cool license plate for it since I will be going down in the next month or so to get it titled. I need to get a plate since it will be sitting outside at times and I don't feel like anyone giving me grief about it

Also, if anyone is looking for any stock parts that I might be taking off, PM me. I'll have lots of stuff to get rid of here soon. As of right now, pretty much anything on the engine is up for grabs.

Not great pics, but it is a starting point. She needs some TLC

I guess I'm one of those that don't get it. Here's an easier three step plan:

Step one - buy an AWD Mistsu Eclipse/Talon
Step two - cut the body off
Step three - weld a Focus body onto the Mitsu chassis.

Just kidding.

Are you building a rally car clone?

Thanks. I figured it was but I hadn't actually looked at it yet.

Exactly what I was thinking. This will be a test of my skill though. There is plenty of work to do here.

I had a 1g Talon and loved it but I have always had a soft spot for the ZX3 ever since they came out. This is the best of both worlds for me. DSM performance with a tall back hatch. No rally here, just something to play with and embarrass people on the street when the think it is just a ZX3 with exhaust and rims. Maybe when they are behind me they will notice the rear end, lol. I've wanted a V8 Focus ever since I saw them at NOPI back in 02-03, I just couldn't swallow the price tag for Kugel stuff. This will be a whole lot cheaper.

Oh, and a sneak peak onto my next project will be a 3 valve 4.6/6 speed swap into my Lincoln LS. When I dream, I dream big.
