04 duratec with manual into an 02 formerly automatic

Is it possible to take my 2004 duratec with a 5 speed and swap it into my 2002 focus that is currently a zetec with an automatic? Just wondered

Very possible. I swapped my 2.0D from my 07 into my 01. Be ready to completely gut the car the engine is going into. Then transplant your engine, wiring, PCM, and everything else..

Possible but not practical, easy, or cheap.

My 07 had a damaged unibody up front and wasn't doing me any good. I paid $800 for my 01 zx3, with no rust, and a bad timing belt.

Within 6 hours I had the 01 stripped down. It took me about a week to get everything into the 01 from my 07 correctly, with the help of some friends.

If you have an extra car to swap stuff from, go for it. I personally didn't find it all to be too big of a challenge. Swapping my rear subframe was a bigger pita.

I guess it depends what goals he is going for. You had a whole donor car with an engine you knew ran well, plus friends to help, and it took a week to get it all done.

If all he wants is more horsepower, that's just not worth it. I don't know if I'd trust buying a used engine if I were going to put that much work into it.

If it's a blown engine, fine. If it's just more hp it'd be better to go FI with either boost or bottle and upgrade the tranny at some point.

I wasn't aware he just wanted power lol... I fully agree with you with just adding boost of building up the zetec. The swap isn't worth it for a few horses

I was thinking about doing something like this. I can find a cheap hatch around here for about 1300. My ST is rusting and frankly to fix it will cost thousands. The engine and trans are in great shape though and I could grab a cheap hatch, swap my engine and trans in and be done with it. Just an idea.
