Automatic transmission swap

Hello everyone,

Well things went from bad to worse. I got 2001 Focus and fixed an alternator issue, so I thought. It seems to be an intermittent electrical issue that is causing the alternator to burn itself out.

So that's find and dandy, some persistence will resolve this issue. So I drive to the local automotive store(Canadian Tire) and at the light, the + power cables pop out of the battery terminal...not off the post but out of the terminal on the post.

Now the transmission shifts down hard into the Overdrive gears. So I start pricing a parts car to swap out the tranny and alternator and maybe some electrical. No soon do I find one and go look at it(2000 ZTS) does the overdrive gears die. So I limp home on the highway in 3rd.

Now I need to find what I need to do in order to swap the tranny. Luckily I have a friend who is in the area who will let me use his garage, since I'm 400km from home(250mi).

Does anyone have any resources as to what needs to be disconnected?

I've done two transmissions in the past. One was 5spd manual transmission from a 91 Cavalier. In the end I was able to get it and and out on my own. Ended pu swapping it out for a used one. The other was a transmission and transfer case out of a 97 Jeep Grand Cherokee. This was a 2 person job just to get it down on the ground so it would be lifted into another truck so it could be redone.

Normally at home I have manuals and all the things I need on my computer. However, I'm not home and I don't have access to them so I'm a little in the dark. I've never done a FWD auto transmission before so I suspect there is a lot the same with Cavalier but it's different.

However, some transmissions have to come out the top with the entire engine, where the Cavalier had room to drop it out the bottom.

I found the info I need. It's a drop down removal.
