new to the race scene, need help and tips for top performance and swaps

hey,

blew out the block on my 00' focus rs. it was an auto with a slipping trans, and i recently blew out the block. i need tips, walkthroughs, and advice on how to switch the car from an auto to standard, and swap out the engine for the svt version. also anyone willing to sell a good tranny and block for cheap would be most appreciated.

For a conversion there is a thread for swaps you may get help there for the swap from Auto to Manual...

a 2000 RS automatic??? I think you need to re look at your trim level.... The RS was never sold in the states, the only way to get one was to import it from Europe.

For 350 HP you will need a rebuilt block with better pistons and rods to be able to handle the 15 PSI or so of boost from a turbo. A SC on our cars max out about 250HP. You will want a limited slip differential with that much power also (those now run about 1K for a new one...). The block will set you back about $1,500. Go with 1turbofocus (Tom) with Focus power unless you want the experience of building your own block. Tom also has tuning, DIY turbo kits and transmissions you can all get. there is no need to upgrade from a SVT Zetec block if you already have a Zetec. if you have the SPI motor than either would work. if your going FI (which you have to to get 350 HP) than it wont mater and there are less you have to worry about on the standard Zetec vs the SVT version (mainly to do with the SVT head and the variable cam timing)

once you hit 350HP your at the end of what the fuel system can handle before you need to go with a return style fuel system.

^^^ I am shooting for that range (while I already have a manual transmission) its going to cost me in the ball park figure of 5-6k to get everything done the way I want it to. I have sunk about $1,800 already and still have a incomplete block will cost me about another $1,500 to complete the block and i have still not looked at the turbo or the transmission or suspension updates.

180 can be done all motor if you want (worked block with higher compression and high flow head and aggressive cams w/ free flowing intake and full SVT exhaust with free flow exhaust) or a small turbo/large SC on a stock block with a Tune and larger injectors.

sell what u have left and buy a turbo'ed/sc'ed svt... all the money youre going to spend getting to that power $5-10k = ive seen low mile svt hitting double/tripple the hp your stock engine has.

when searching for my svt i saw a few turboed svts for under 10k... they were just too far away plus i needed a reliable dd...
