atx to mtx wiring question

Ok I have looked and looked and cant seem to find anything on this. I am pretty sure im gonna end up rewiring the atx harness for my mtx transmission. My question is I got a zetec with mtx pcm and was wondering if I can plug it in program the keys and be good after I wire the atx harness for the mtx? Everyone seems to use the atx pcm and get it programmed.

Well work was slow today so felt like gettin into it. got the whole swap done except wiring the trans. Drove it home with no speedo or reverse lights. So glad I did the swap! I love manual! I was just looking at the wiring diagrams and it doesn't look like any of the pins are different between auto and manual for the pcm. So im gonna give it a shot and wire the auto harness and put the manual pcm in and try it out. I will keep you posted.

Just make some wiring changes and it should work

Congrats, good to hear :) What changes did you have to make to the wiring harness?

I had to wire up the reverse lights. I also jumped the park neutral circuit. And lastly. I had to run the power and ground wires for the speed sensor because the pcm return feed was the same as for the auto. It actually wasn't too bad.

Thats pretty cool. Was the reverse light portion just changing the pigtail to fit the manual plug? For the park neutral circuit, what was involved in that? And what did you wind up using as power and ground for the speed sensor?

Sorry for all the questions. I want to swap mine, but haven't seen any writeups for duratecs and I'm hoping the concept of the wiring is the same.

I just used the 2 wires that would normally go to the trans range sensor for the reverse and used the manual pigtail. And the park neutral switch was just a matter of jumping I think it was the gray and gray and red wires that went to the trans range sesnor. For the speed sensor I actually spliced into one of the grounds on the drivers side fenderwell and for the power I ran a new wire through the connector under the fuse box and into the fuse box and spliced it to the relay wire that the manual harness had it wired to. I belive it was the power save relay

No problem I should've takin pics.

Cool thanks. I get it except for the relay, I'll have to look and see if I can figure it out.

From a quick read in the haynes manual, the auto trans has an input speed sensor and an output speed sensor. I'm assuming the output speed sensor is the one I want to use? And just leave the other taped up?
