Inquire about compatibility of transmission

Something wrong occurred to the transmission of my 03ford focus zts. It is automatic. The tag shows the ID of the transmission 1s4p-da, which is dohc. I went the local junk yard and it only has dohc 3s4p-ca. I would like to know if such a dohc 3s4p-ca can fit in my car or not. Many thanks!

Not to tear away from your main question, but have you ever thought of switching to a MTX75 trans?

More parts.
More common in junkyards.
And just overall better.

I think the 3- trans is the upgraded later version of the 4F27E for use with duratec motors.

I think they are physically identical, it's the same basic trans.
I would ask a trans shop about compatability though, sometimes they change things and it's not obvious.

When I replaced the trans on my wifes old 96 buick, that is the model year they changed the way the torque converter locks up (to a PWM instead of just off/on) and the clutch material in the converter was changed as a result. If I got the wrong type, the converter would last a couple days only before the clutch burned up. I had to take the vin # of the car to the local good guy trans supply/repair shop and get the exact compatability.
