I know the obvious anwser but.....

So I was talking about the focus over dinner tonight and she agreed to a engine swap, not right this very month but sometime after we get my truck running so we still have a DD. Now before I jump on the band wagon I want to look at my options, I can get a zetec for under grand. Which is why she agreed but I don't know if I can get the trans, wire harness and computer included. I'd really like to find a D23 but I think the odds are slim. My second thought although with high miles my SPI (160k) is running great, but I'm always expecting the engine failure every time I turn the car over (just because that's my luck and everyone reminds me of it pretty much every day I'm on the forums). I want to know although a zetec swap would be the ideal choice, can you honestly tell me if I get a spare SPI head at a junk yard and rebuild it with new valve seats will the problem be fixed? For two reasons one I think it would be cheaper and two I would rather just buy another focus than swap motors if I had a choice.

Another thing to look at. I'm not a AutoXer or a hard core thrasher, so I don't need a fast motor with lots of after marker support. I need mileage and DD the car sees more highway miles than anything and I don't think it's ever been over 100 mph if ever that high. It's for cruising and going out with my wife and for shows.

without reading, the answer is no.

edit: after further review, answer is yes to all the above. well most of it.

edit again: after even further review, there is only one question. The answer is still yes.

edit again x2: after much more review, there is still only one question. The answer may still be yes. Don't push your luck.

edited again.

supplementary post edit: If it's just a daily driver, don't bother with the zetec swap just swap heads and call it a day. Find a cam if you want. kent and piper I believe make or made them. Also that one escort-focus performance or something. been awhile. Can't beat the mileage of the SPI.

Thanks for the honest answer. I think I'm going to go that route manly because my ability to do this. I don't have the set up or the complete know how to do a engine swap. I was thinking about setting up a engine swap meet at someone house that does if I came down to it though. I just think having a trusty SPI under the hood is different, I like different.

edit: I was going to look into some type of cam, plus a few members at the last focus g2g told me the escort GT has parts that are interchangeable with the SPI like the header and so on.
