Zetec to Duratec

I't probably has been talked about but I'm just curious how much of a problem is it to swap a older zetec focus motor to a newer Duratec motor both auto trans ? Has anyone done it on here if so what do you think is it a good swap or is it better to build the zetec to the same power as the newer Duratec.? thanks ahead of time

It has been done. I do not know all of the details though. I know the wiring harness has to be swapped from you donor car and so does the harness in the dash.

wonder why the wiring in the dash needs swapped just some future idea floating around. I know it's stock but it seems this zetec is sick compared to the duratec cars I've had idk.

The gauge clusters are different. You maybe able to chop and splice to get it to work. I know this sounds silly but have you searched at all. I've seen the swap before, but that was when I first joined.

No I haven't checked sounds like I might be better off if the motor ever needs to come out to maybe just put forged internals in it and be done with it. just wondering about it is all I'm really hoping the zetec last a while it has like 104,000 0n it so hopefully it will last for a good while.

I have a zetec and a duratec focus, I personally prefer the zetec. It sounds nicer to me and it idles smoother as well. Also I've had far less problems with it. The duratec is a bit more torquei but the zetec has plenty kick with some addons.

If I wanted to add new life to a zetec I'd look into doing up the internals, maybe a ford racing cylinder head

Do a small turbo and shoot for 200whp. I bet it will be loads more fun than a duratec and if done right just as reliable as stock. There are several guys with low hp turbo builds that last for 100k miles and more. Illipino(sp?) is one member i can think of off the top of my head.

I'm nearing completion on this swap.. And I wouldn't recommend the swap to anyone that doesn't have a complete parts car, or patience and spare time.. I have none of those..haha. The issue with the harness is that from Zetec to Duratec, the H can/L can/9141 bus lines get all thrown off from harness to harness, which kills pcm communication. Well that, and lots of other issues, to say the least. Hopefully I'll be happy with it.. aiming to be done this week.
