Can I install a higher final drive ratio trans on my auto spi

Hi I have a 2001 automatic spi focus It currently has a 3.61 fd ratio and I want to upgrade to a higher ratio so it'll be a bit quicker. I know there are several different versions of the 4F27E but don't know which ones are auto except for the one I have. Is there one that's quicker .I don't want to convert to a manual. Can't do that right now. Thanks

All 4F27E trannys are automatic.

There are ID numbers that are different. There are like 4 ID numbers that fit your car.
I wrote about this a while ago on FF and cant find it now.

You have a 1S4P-CA

You want a 1S4P-DA

Good luck. Saw them new in box on ebay for around 800 shipped.

I am getting the Lentech Street Terminator.

ok thanks joecool i'll look for it. and I wish i could switch to a 5 speed manual rough rider but that takes more money than my parents will probably let me spend. the cars in there name and my dad keeps telling me to save for a mustang or an evo because the focus won't do what i want it to do. all I want it to do is look like a rally car and get about 175hp to 200hp and do the 1/4 mile in 14 seconds so that it will keep up with cars in the next class up and not get bagged on as much. but if I upgrade the engine i need to upgrade the transmission. so thats why im asking a lot of questions on different forums because i love my car and i don't want to screw up. I want it to go right the first time.

is it 4 id numbers for the spi? Or is it 4 id numbers for both zetec and spi? And do the id numbers matter or will it still bolt up regardless of the id?

the 175-200hp? or the 14secs 1/4 mile? Cause I measured a 1/4 mile on this side road by my apt the best i could with my odometer and was able to complete it in 15.84 at 94mph with the overdrive turned off. but like i said I'm not sure how accurate my measurements were. I'm sure there would be a difference if a took it to a strip but i havent had the time.My transmission had just been rebuilt about a week or two prior to my test so that may or may not have made a difference. but my car is automatic too. so no clutch and less shift time.

Ain't no way possible that car is nearly that quick.

The gear change you speak of will cost you about as much as changing to manual trans. The gear is part of a final drive train meaning need more than one (3 I'm thinking) and they all need to be reset up inside the cases for bearing preloads, or you will tear it all up in maybe 10 minutes.

By the way, I know it sounds wonky but you want LOWER gears, the numbers are higher but the gearing is lower. Think of low gear in the ATX, it has more get up and go versus high gear. I know it's goofy, but that's how it goes.
