SVT intake manifold and focus head swap

So, I have a 2000 Zx2 and I just put a 02 focus head and a 03 SVT intake manifold on it. I've been back and forth playing with it and I'm finally making a little head way. The car idles (and drives), kinda rough but no more then a zetec should or how it use to for that matter.

I've noticed 2 changes though from how it ran before the head swap.
First, the intake doesn't make the whistle/suck sound when I get past 1/4 throttle like it use to. Hard to explain the sound but I'm pretty sure every SVT car I've ridden in has done it and it use to before the head swap.

Second, it has absolutely no torque. All I hear is intake.

The only things I can think of would be timing (Checked, was good but reset anyways and cam gears were zeroed both times) or the intake runners need to be set the opposite to how they are now. (Nothing is hooked up to the the DSIM clip) I would rule this out since the car drove fine before with them set like this but the how-to at teamzx2 says to set them to the long position.

Anymore info needed just let me know. Any and all input is appreciated! Thanks

If the manifold is set in the short configuration then you will have no low end power. The longer runners are for low end power, the short runners are for top end power. Have you checked for any vacuum leaks? It should idle like stock. Doesn't the ZX2 read from the cam sensor, which is different on the focus head? I don't understand the rest of what your saying. You hear no whistle/sucking sound like before, but have no TQ all you hear is intake? I'm totally missing on what your trying to say.

Oh and welcome to the forum , we love any Zetec powered cars

I made a small bracket and it holds the runners in the long position. Feels a little better but still not like it did.

Vacuum is in check. On a Zx2 zetec the timing is read from the crank position sensor. The cam sensor is only used for the VCT, which is no longer there.

Lol I knew that wasn't going to explain it enough. The throttle whistle is hard to explain. After about 1/4 you could hear it. Only for a second though. As for no torque, I mean it doesn't pull nearly as hard as it use to. By intake sound I mean it's loud and deep, almost like it's bogging down.

Hhmmm, interesting. Let me think more on the problem, I'm at work right now trying to clean stuff up and get out of here, was about shut my laptop down and saw you posted. There are others on here way more knowledgeable than me. Maybe they'll chime in before I do again. Are you sure it doesn't pull as hard as before, and the timing as been double checked, and that's with a crank stop on the crank right?

This is WOT
It's wet out and the tires are staying firmly planted.

Edit: I've never used a crank peg, but always the cam locking tool. Is it possible that the VCT had been correcting the slightly off timing for me

You need to use the crank pin, it insures that the crank is at TDC. Try re-timing with the pin.

The SVT intake with nothng hooked to it is in the long runner for better mid and upper rpm

What did you do about the VCT ? If you used the VCT Elim then you have to allow for the built in advance and adjust your Intake cam a long way , if you dont have the VCT Elim then your going to have to get one and thats you no tq issue

I will never understand why people do this it doesnt make any more power and creates a lot of issues

I guessing you dont have a tune ?

Tom

He doesn't have a VCT head on the car. SO no elim kit needed.

My feeling is that cam timing is off. But from the video I can't quite tell if the car is an auto or manual and if manual what gear you're in. My assumption is manual in first gear, which if that's the case and it's a bit damp out, the tires should have broke loose right away based on my experience.

Do this for me, check the compression. If it's around 180psi (on the mid/high side) then I'd say cam timing is close.
If it's higher you need to back off the exhaust cam.
If it's lower you need to add to the exhaust cam.
Intake cam timing doesn't seem to play near the role as exhaust.
