02 spi to zetec swap wiring help needed

hi all i have searched a read many threads on this coversion forum , i think i have most of the info i need except for some wiring details. my focus is an 2002 spi automatic trans build date of 7/02 i have read that mid year 2002 ford changed somthing on the harness , my question is 2 parts.

1st taking in consideration my build date what year donor cars should i look for or does it matter being that i am switching the wire harness?

2nd in switching the harnes are we switching all the wiring in the dashboard also including up the guage cluster and heater controls & stereo or just up to the shifter as many have stated?

any help /info/links to specific info on the wiring portion greatly apreciated especialy from those that have done this already.

It's not simple.
Step1: Get a Ford Service DVD.
Step2: Look at the wiring for your SPI
Step3: Look at the wiring for a DOHC
Step4: Take a step back, start crying, and give up ;-)

I just did this conversion for the 5th time, obviously not on the same car, so if you have any questions feel free to PM me.

I seem to get roped into this everytime one of my friends focus drops a valve seat lol.

The conversion is not really that difficult. You just have to be patient.

Zetec / SPI Engine Swap; What Components, How Long?

Hey JJZX2SR!

With 5 swaps under your belt, you're the ONLY guy I'm going to listen to; there's a bit of conflicting info out there.
SO; I have a 2000 Focus wagon with most of an SPI engine (missing one valve seat) and an automatic. If I want to put a Zetec in it, according to another fanatic, I will need:

Tranny (if its a 5 speed not if its auto.)
ECU
axles (same with tranny)
throttle cable
shift tower (same with tranny)
harness
pass side motor mount

As I read it, he means I only need the axles if it's a manual trans (which seems odd), and same for the shift tower (which makes sense); do you agree with this list?
Is the part of the harness which needs replacing different in a wagon vs sedan? (I'm guessing this is a "YES"...)
I never saw anyone else mention the motor mount; ?es correcto?
How long did the first swap take you?

Thanks so much for your time,
Mark Wallner

Your best bet is to get a harness and ECU from the same year the engine is if you want it to work right. You won't need the dash and interior harness if you do, just the engine harness that runs from under the hood to up under the passenger seat then back to the fuel pump. Alot of people will cut and splice the harness from under the passenger seat back to the fuel pump to prevent needing to drop the tank.

Your also going to need the passenger side motor mount bracket. powersteering line, A/C lines. There are two different throttle bodys and cables for the '02 make sure you get the right one. If you buy both together you be fine.

Sorry to hijack a bit but I can get an 03 Zetec and all the parts I need very cheap. They are both sedans but mine is a 00. I know I have 1 big plug and the 03 will have 5 small plugs. Will I need the cluster, dash wiring and all that?

EDIT: Basically, what will I need to do the swap considering the years are different?

I planned on

Motor w/ all pumps/lines and what not
ECU
IGN w/Key
Harness all the way back to fuel pump
