sohc to dohc complete front end swap

Hello all. I am new to this forum. I have used the search tool a lot, but still haven't been able to find what I am looking for. I know I am not the first one to have this bright idea, so I just need someone to point me in the direction of somebody else that has tried it. I am looking at a 2000 focus with a blown sohc. I have zetec in my 01 zx2 and I love it. I was hoping to put a dohc zetec in this focus if I get it. I was wondering if the sohc to dohc swap would be easier if you just swapped the whole front cradle. It all unbolts from the bottom, so what if you unhook everthing and take the whole front susp, k member, engine, trans, axles, steering, EVERYTHING from a donor car, and wheel it up under the old sohc car? Would it work? is there a good reason it won't from somebody that has tried it? If there is a thread on this here, I couldn't find it, so maybe somebody can point me in the right direction ( a link or something) if there is a thread on this here. As a last resort, is there anywhere to get a replacement block for the sohc motors? I wouldn't mind building one if I had to and putting the updated head on it with the improved valve seats. Are the sohc motors decent if you fix the valve dropping issue? Thanks in advance and I love the site!

I did the SPI to Zetec swap with my buddy. We did the whole thing in 18 hrs. 2 nights. If you ask me, the SPI to Zetec swap was so easy I dont know why you would attempt it any other way.

Just do your research and have all the parts ready and on hand. Then I took lots of pictures of the layout of everything on a factory Zetec for reference. It was a piece of cake.

I wrote a whole thing on what you need a few months ago when I did the swap.

Spi to zetec

Thanks

Both SPI and Zetec Automatics use Ford 4F27E transmissions. There are several different ID tags though on the trannys that indicate variations. The only difference between the 00-04 SPI and Zetec ID's are the gearing. SPI has 3.69 first gear and Zetec has 3.91 I believe.

1S4P-CA - ID for SPI 4F27E

XS4P-CF Zetec

XS4P-DF Zetec

There are others also other ID's

Ok, Thank you guys very much! I ended up going a different route. I found a 2001 se focus with the zetec already. They ran off the road and beat up the undercarraige a little, but I think I can fix it. The airbags went off, but the body is fine. Where are the sensors that set off the airbag? I know where the module is and how to swap it and the airbags, but I wanted to swap the airbag sensors out at the bumper as well; I just don't know where to find them. :/
