Automatic to Manual

What would be the approximate cost to do an automatic tranny to a manual tranny on a 2010 Ford Focus SES?

The approximate LOWEST cost is to sell the one you own and just buy the other.
Unless you are a master mechanic and love crazy projects and just happen to have all the parts laying around and nothing better to do,,, it would be a big mistake. (and even THEN it would still be a mistake)
And finally it would unsellable in the end. Unless you found one of the other two crazy guys in the world wanting one just to say they have it.

It ain't like some old 1960's car where it is not too big a deal...

Oh yeah, and the actually do it and PAY for labor would cost around $8,000. as a guess. Using all junkyard components (I would suggst buying the whole junked car. As you are going to need an awful lot of those parts
And that does not even include $$$ if any problems arise.. which trust me.. they will.

You have to buy the tranny: $1000. used (if you are real lucky. manual MTX75 are expensive used. so try $1,500 as a real price. (and hope it works right)
You have to buy the clutch, the flywheel.. the clutch slave cylinder. Hope the clutch and flywheel can FIT on the motor (who knows?)
You have to have all the cockpit stuff shifter, cable, mount, parts that fit in the cockpit.. $300 used.. PLUS the clutch pedal on the floor... Good luck getting THAT to work out. another hundred in labor alone A different master brake cylinder, to have the slave for the clutch work. programming the CPU for the manual tranny..
Then the labor. Yeah cheap if you can do it all yourself. then cost is zero. Plan on 40 hours of work between getting it in the car, then making it work at all. then making it work well enough you can actually drive it. Then making it work well enough you can really generally depend on the car for transportation.
If you plan on having some putz do it cost for labor would be $1,000 with zero guarantees
If you plan on having a pro do it.. $2,000. and that would be for install, with no sorting out issues. So no real guarantee.
Then the months of actually sorting out the issues.. cuz dude they are gonna make you go insane.
And the fact NO ONE has done it(in a 2010.. maybe in a 1957.. but not in a 2010) , so all the issues have to be figured out from scratch.

So I just popped the $8 grand out of thin air cuz after all is said and done. that is gonna be what it took. IF you had others do all the work.
If YOU do all the work, then it is just parts.
$2,500 should do for just parts. USED parts at that.

And then that final killer: selling the car.. It will be worthless unless you lie. And then you will be liable for years if you do lie and it comes back to haunt you...

Am I trying to STOP the op.
YES. it is one of those crazy ideas..
Save the headache and just trade the car in for a manual tranny one. Be happy, not pissed.
I am saving you from a whopping headache.

Added: then your car is currently worth (from Yahoo used cars) between $12K and $15K as it is.
IF you bastardize it, the value plummets.
Even adding many thousands of dollars to the car, the value drops, and that is on a good day, and the transplant was totally successful.
IF the transplant is a failure. either you have to put it all back to stock for any hope of recovery, or you wind up with a car worth scrap value. Maybe $4,000. at BEST.
So not only do you lose the time and money invested, you lose MOST of the original value of the car.

If you were doing this with a $500 car, no problem (even a $2,500 car if you do not need to depend on it for transportation) . You want to do it to a $12 to $15 THOUSAND dollar car and that is just insane.
Sorry.
It is a pipe dream to smoke and then Wake up! (I really hope this helps you decide)
