Ok guys here it is: I saw a guy on the marketplace selling his old 03 zx3 zetec engine with a 5 speed transmission. My engine as of now has about 135,000 miles on it. I have an automatic transmission (brand new at 124,000 miles) and i am just curious. If i buy this engine with transmission. Can i just drop this thing in and take the atx out and replace it with the 5 speed? I am guessing i will have to mod it a little to fit it. I just need to know what all i have to do in order to convert it to a 5 speed. I am guessing i will have to get a clutch built in, adjust the shifter of course, maybe drive train work? Can you guys give me possible estimates of this stuff i will ALSO need for the whole job. Here is the info on the BUY:
"I have a complete Zetec with 5-speed transmission and all accessories on it. This engine has less than 1000 miles and came out of a 2003 ZX3. It even has the motor mounts and cat still attached. Includes air box and mass air meter."
well, its good that it has the motor mounts. You might have problems with the harness. Because the 5sp may require a different wiring harness than the ATX. As for the ECU. That may present a problem as well, im not sure if you can just drop it in there and hook it up and fire it....
talk to focus salvage. they specialize in transmissions and actually work for ford i believe. and i know for a fact that they have done numerous swaps, atx to mtx, mtx75 to getrag, 4cyl to 6cyl. the wiring harnesses are definitely different, but as for the ecu's i'm not entirely sure how that goes.
As I understand it you will also have to swap the half shafts. And the ECU. Search the forum, although there are so many threads on this swap you'll probably get lost!
Although you did good for using the search, bumping a 3 year old thread = not so good.
You're gonna need an ECU, Tranny, clutch master cylinder, CV shafts, keys for said ecu, shift linkage, shifter, motor mounts, clutch pedal, brake pedal....
It would be more cost effective to buy a manual transmission Focus, unless you have the time and money, or skills and time to do the swap.
