SPI to Zetec swap, opinions wanted

We'll the SPI dropped a valve seat and the motor is seized.

What is everyone's opinion on what I should do?

I really would like to do a Zetec swap. There is just alot I need to know about that before buying an engine and parts. Anyone who has done an SPI to Zetec swap please let me know what all that entails. My car is currently an automatic, from what I read it looks like I could buy a Zetec and it would work with my auto tranny just fine. But if I am going to all this trouble I would like to swap in a 5 spd tranny as well. That being the MTX75 I believe.

Other than that I don't know what I should do, any opinions are welcome.

Thanks fellow fanatics.

Hey there,

Sorry to hear about your SPI engine, it's a common failure.
I would do a Zetec swap as those engines are indestructible. The automatic transmission should slip right in with the Zetec. The things that would probably change is the ECU, PCM and wiring harnesses. Although if you do an Automatic > Manual transition it will be more complicated. A few members here on FF have done it.

Moved to "Engine and transmission swap" I think you'll find more help in there.

btw there is a LOT of information..... almost a full list, instructions etc as we have had quite a few failures now. I think most are in the SPI forum but I think some in the engine swap as well.

Thanks, this section seems perfect.

I forgot we had it lol, I'll probably be spending alot of time in here now.

Seems like it would be fairly easy if I stuck with the autotragic. But at the same time I really want a MTX.

I think with some tuning the shifts are pretty nice..... though I do prefer manual over auto most of the time.

I hope you don't mind me moving your threads. Just realized yours have been the only two I've moved so far

man that kugel kit is just so.....expensive. I'm doing something like that but it should work out much more cost effective and simple. lol

If it wasn't so dang expensive there would be a lot of V8 Foci rolling around.

Lol its all good man, if you don't mind could you change the thread title to: "SPI to Zetec swap, opinions wanted."

Yeah I'll just have to research a little more before I can decide on transmission.

aww.... I can't do it, but I'll make a request. I could have changed it when it was moved over.

and just remember the MTX75 uses the same axles as the auto, but not the IB5 manual trans that came on the SPI
