let me rephrase that you can make it work but with the amount of extra work that would be invloved youd be better off with a diffrent swap or waiting to find an spi. theres enough diffrences i dont think its ever been done because its not worth it if you wanna figure out the diffrence go look through old posts in spi performance chat or use the search function or the good old google it

zetec swap. i wouldn't waste my time with a SPI its just going to drop more valve seats.

might aswell spend the extra few hundred to get a strong motor, and you will pick up about 20hp

any time anyone in spi chat asks anything about an spi theres a bunch of zetec guys that just say its not worth your time, zetec swap, it gets old very quickly the little bit of good info that can be found in here is all muddied up with posts from people who dont even own an spi saying its a POS timebomb and your wasting your time just switch to a zetec. i drive my spi harder than most zetec owners on here and am racking up the miles with very few problems. when properly maintained and preventative maintenance done they will last. im gonna drive this one til i drop a seat if it ever happens than replace it with another spi that already has the upgraded valve seats so it wont drop them. everyone is quick to bring up the valve seat issue but noone bring up the fact that there is a remedy for the problem

i wasn't bashing anyone he is talking about swapping escort motor into his car because he can't find a running 2.0l SPI. so a zetec swap is relevant.

my zetec has 249k on it right now and its daily driven and raced. i used to do 12 or more passes at the drag strip every weekend for over a year till i moved now its 2-3 times a year.

if you want an SPI go for it. i personally know someone (friend) who had an SPI all was well till one day he started, heard knocking/rattling pulled it into a bay (since it was 20ft away) and it was completely destroyed.

this should really be in the engine and transmission swap thread and not SPI proformance.

but a zetec swap is not a direct swap you have to change transmission and axles and wiring etc. not quite a weekend project. with another spi theres alot less little shit to mess with. and if your doing an engine swap any3way the motors already out of the car so its not hard to drop the motor and a bag of valve seats off at an engine shop and go pick it up a few days later to have an spi thatll run just as long as a zetec
