SVT Tranny in my ZX3

Ok so im not very mechanical. I have been told that the SVT tranny and cold air intake are the only real differences between the SVT and the ZX3. is this true and how hard is it to make the changes?

there are other differences. Brakes, Suspension, the SVT has had a psychiatrist in its head, intake has dual runners, tuned exhaust with 4-2-1 headers and a high-clow cat.

As far as putting the getrag in a ZX3, i dunno. i assume it bolts up because the shortblocks are the same, but i dont know about shifter or clutch linkages.

He is right the Getrag is a 6-speed. and yes, you could piece together an SVT Zetec. The cost may be as much, if not more than buying a turbo or supercharger kit though. Here is a site with info on teh differences http://myfordfocus.com/svt/

Yes, most of these could be done seperately, as you were able to do them. The shifter linkage between the 5 and 6 speed is different i believe. So there may be some modifications to be made. as well as possible clutch linkages.

EDIT: this topic may get more support in the SVT or 00-07 Focus forums. as i can only speak from the SVT side, ive never seen inside a ZX3

EDITEDIT: "Solid halfshafts with larger constant velocity joints are the final link in the powertrain. They are 13 percent stronger than those on a ZX3, to handle the SVT Focuss power output." you will probably have to get the SVT spindles to handle the cv axles

i would suggest leaving your car alone and keep up on your regular maintenance and small mods... but dont start with something big like this.. do all the small mods yourself and learn about the car. then you can start thinking about a transmission swap. im really not trying to be rude. just dont wanna see you come back like hey guys i broke something...

small, like intake/exhaust, svt suspension or your brand of preference. svt suspension and brake swaps are never a bad thing when thinking of making more power down the line. The downside to the 6-speed is im not sure how much power it can handle. ive heard 250 HP is about the top you want to push them. I may be wrong, have been before and im still learning. someone correct me if i am.

Check the link above for all the differences between the SVT and regular focus. There are many and if you try to duplicate a SVT you'd probably be cheaper to just buy one. Second, check the How-to threads and do some research instead of just relying on what your buddies tell you
