can you put ecu?

im curious.. i have a guy buying a motor from me and he is gonna put it into his car.. no i have the whole car adn wondering if we put the ecu from my donor car into his car with the motor from the donor car. will it run? or do you have to switch the pats as well? what would he need so he wouldnt have to retune his ecu to make this motor work in his car.. (both are svts)?

if both are svts i wouldnt see why he cant just swap the motor and still run his stock ecu? its no different than replacing a blown motor, am i wrong?

To answer your question you would have to swap the ECU , PATS , dash , keys and ignition switch all of these work togather as 1

Easiest to just retune

thats what i was curious of.. you see he has a jrbbk tune on his old ecu.. and i have one.. so i just hate to see him waste the tune and have to get it retuned later.. he doesnt want to put the jrbbk back on right now.. i think he is building his motor to handle it better or something like that.. its just a shame when i have all the parts.. but i think that is more work than he is looking for... hey just thought of this.. what if ecu codes are the same? would we then be able to just swap ecus? i know ive swapped ecus in my car beofer due to burining one up.. but i have a zx3..

ok i have come to one of two or possibly both realizations, a) i dont know jack or b) i misunderstood and c) all of the above.

on a side note, when we done the spi to zetec swap on my ole ladys car we kept the spi ignition cylinder and pats. We only changed the wiring harness from the ecu to under the hood and the engine harness. But we had 2 keys and had ford reprogram the keys to the new ecu and it worked fine. So we swapped ecus and a few wiring harnesses. In your situation I would think if you had 2 keys you could just change motors and ecus and have ford reprogram the keys to work with his current pats. When I done my svt swap in my car I used the svt ignition cylinder and transceiver and it started just fine but i have to use a separate key for the doors and the ignition now. If you go the route I did with the spi to zetec swap he would have to have his keys reprogrammed yet again to switch back to the jrsc/bbk. I believe that is correct, someone correct me if i am wrong/missed anything

I think if you were to just switch the ignition cylinders and transceivers and ecus it would work fine, assuming you have a key for each ignition cylinder and transceiver. and that way you could still have the jrsc ecu for when he wants to put that back in and vice versa. You would just have to make sure not to lose either set. That seems like less work and cheaper than reprogramming keys and such

sorry it made sense in my head.

lets try to simplify this:
take the ignition cylinder and transceiver and ecu out of the donor car.
put them along with the new motor into the current car
with the donor car key it should work

keep the current ignition cylinder and keys and ecu and transceiver
now when he is ready to put the jrsc motor back in all he has to do is swap these parts back over with the motor.

does that make sense?
