Engine Swap Recommendations

I was wondering what your ideas were on the best engine swap for a Ford Focus SE. Money isn't an issue, no SVT engines please. I know about other cars but I really haven't looked that much into swapping the engine on my Focus, I'm looking for something with 350-500hp stock (if anything that large would fit haha).

I really need to drive a rear wheel drive Focus someday. Go for it! I cannot think of any 300+hp motors that don't require a whole drivetrain. A V8 swap sounds like what you wanted anyway.

*Off topic*
I have trouble with the idea of changing the fundamental nature of a car for performance. To me a Focus absolutely must have independent-rear suspension and needs its front wheels driving. Yes, Twin-turbo V6, all-wheel-drive Mustang with a dual-clutch and paddles would be amazing, but is it still a Mustang?

IRS in a Focus conversion isn't going to be easy. All the RWD conversions I've seen use solid axles. To use the Ford 9" with rear discs, you'll need to do some metal fabrication, and lose something above the axle. I'm not sure if the stock fuel tank is used, but that might interfere with an IRS using that axle. You might want to look into some other axle options for IRS.

Really, you'll be cheaper searching for another vehicle than modifying a Focus for RWD.

On a side note about changing the fundamental nature of a car, isn't a RWD conversion doing exactly that? Why not just modify the engine you have? There are Zetec turbo engines out there which make over 350 hp. If you get rid of the older engine by getting a later model, the Duratec can be taken above that since the OTC turbo/intercooler kits for the D23 put out close to 300 hp as is on a stock engine. A proper purpose built D23 turbo engine could easily go over 400 hp as F2 showed with their sequential turbo engine that if memory serves correctly pushed 450 hp. Converting a Zetec to Duratec is also possible, but you'll likely need a complete wrecked vehicle for the conversion as the transmissions, ECU, and other electronics will be different. The Dtec is all aluminum too.

If you're really serious, you should contact Tom at Focus Power. He just recently mentioned that he'd love to push all he could out of a Duratec, but nobody has tried to do it.

my go kart has a 2JZ in it and I keeps my pimp hand strong with it.

To illustrate, first you want to put in your rod bearings:

And then gently lower the crank into the block:
