another awd thread

so me and my brother were talking...i picked up a 86 scirocco that i'm considering dropping an awd audi tt drivetrain into using the rear subframe and diff etc....anyway he was talking about v6 swapping one of his foci. he also has a v8 rwd swap one that we're building, slowly, but building lol...so if using a duratec v6 (with stand alone managment) and a jaguar awd tranny, has anyone considered running the rear subframe set up from kugal komponents thats set up for the rwd conversions? if i recall they make a set up for an 8.8 irs rather then a solid axle, of course custom driveshafts would have to be made but its something to consider, especially because i found a jag awd manual tranny for $500 lol. anyway i'm just curious why no one thought about this before (or have they?) i couldnt find a thread on it, the threads i found are about swapping escape or jag rear subframes and diff's in.

I guess I'll answer this as there's a HUGE amount of AWD threads out right now and I'm to blame lol.

honestly, never thought of the solid rear axle. I know the jag system is hydraulically controlled (wait I think it was, otherwise it was electronic) and "reactive" so potentially a rear axle setup could enable full time AWD like subarus, less the IRS setup out back.

i checked with kugel and they dont make the kit to "bolt in" an irs for the v8 swaps anymore...anyway, when he gets the v8 swap kit i'm thinking about trying this idea out (have a 2.5 v6 laying around and a jag tranny with the tcase i can find on ebay) and see if it works out. cant hurt to try lol, the car is just sitting for the v8 build anyway so worst case scenario i get stuck with a jag tranny and tcase and a v6 i can just throw up on craigslist or ebay and then drop a v8 into the focus like we originally planned

lol i'll give it a shot when my bro gets the v8 swap stuff which will probably be this summer, i'll have him order up the rear before the front just to give this an "attempt" and if it works then why bother with the v8 lol i think an awd v6 would be plenty fun and with the money saved on not having to buy the front end stuff maybe boost it? idk i'd have to talk to him about it first but i know hes down to let me try an awd build just to see if itll work lol

the jaguar transmission spins in the opposite direction, as does the matching IRS jaguar rear end. If you use the jag trans with a normal 8.8 rear end you will have 5 gears in reverse and one low gear for forward.
