AWD anyone?

Anyone done or know someone who has completed an AWD swap? I'm pretty sure I've got the right plan for doing it, but not 100% sure on where to place the R&P and if you can put focus coil overs on after

Good luck. This has been discussed many times on here. The problem with an "easy" conversion is that the steering rack is in the way.

I thought the "easy" conversion was to swap in a completely different engine?

As far as I can find, the easiest thing that people have come up with is the early Escapes had a 2.0 Ztech AWD 5spd manual option. Last time I was reasearching this someone had gone through a lot of labor seeing how this would work. Wheel base's are almost the and were only out by less then 1". Also sounded like the clutch and flywheel in this model were the same so very easy to upgrade.

Looks like the only 2 really hard parts about this swap was the steering rack and modding the suspension to be able to get it back down to stock or lower ride heights.

Fuel would have to swapped to an in car fuel cell. Exhaust would have to be repiped. Drive shaft as the RWD swap guys have found out, fits nicely in the existing exhaust tunnel. Plus a few other smaller things.

My personal power goal is about 350 whp and just over 400 wtq. Might just pipe the exhaust out a front fender as theres no emissions laws where I am. The turbo kit will be from precision turbo. Gonna try to fit the K-Sport gravel spec coil overs. Other bits arn't coming to mind, but thats the basic jist of what I'm looking at.

if you go and look at the guys over in england they got it down lol.

they pull the 4x4 transmission and drivetrain out of the old cosworths that had that stuff stock. From what i have seen the subframe has to be custom fit in the front end of the focus (which might i add didnt look that difficult to do). That pretty much means your whole front end gets redone and i do not think you'll be able to use the same focus parts over again. I still have yet to do my own deeper research on it but they have def done it.

Last time I priced out getting a Cosi over here it would be about 25k. So as much as that is the far better drive train to use, escapes are much cheaper :P

Trying to cut/paste is a complete waste of time. Think about it. You'd be using chassis parts cut down to size and modified to fit. They'd have to be cut and welded and you'd spend hours doing this.

It'd be far more beneficial to make your own parts. Being you have to weld anyways, why not make your own parts? You can get the geometry you want, you can use off the shelf parts that may be cheaper, you can set your ground clearance to what you want rather than loosing suspension travel by limiting stock stuff. It's just a win win situation.
I mean there isn't any and I mean any kit or factory AWD system out there that will bolt in or won't require some type of custom fab work.
