Okay I got On My Flame Suit....IB5 on 2.0 Zetec

Why wont the IB5 work on a Zetec engine? If the autos are the same, whats so differant about the manuals?

You want to know what' strange? The CVH trans bolts onto the Zetec for escorts, you just need to change the flywheel and clutch, so I would think it would be the same for focuses.

Also when I was browsing Wikipedia, it says the IB5 was offered on certain Zetec engines, I'm assuming the lower displacement ones. The SPI wasn't offered in other parts of the world except North America too I believe.

People say it won't, but has anyone actually ever tried to bolt one onto a Zetec? I couldn't find a definitive answer.

I found some info that the Focus with the 1.4, 1.6, and 1.8 liter Zetecs all have IB5 transmissions, and I think when they go 2.0L they can stick to the IB5 if they want, but the MTX-75 has shorter ratios so thats probably why its swapped.

Oh, they also have different spline counts I think. So that may pose as a problem.

What if the autos are just internally the same, but not the exact same trans?

Also, pics.

IB5 Trans.

MTX75

Okay so if the IB5 and MTX75 have differant spline counts how can the engine use the same auto tranny?

Those pics make them look miles differant.

The spline count is only for the axles I think.

When I was under the car today I did notice there are several holes with no bolts in the bell housing. Looking at the pictures I count the same amount of holes in about the same shape.

I would imagine it can be done just the reason it isnt anymore is the ib5 isnt as strong as the mtx75 and the mtx75 is newer. You could try it and find out.
